Hi im looking a purchasing a Land Cruiser hzj77 but it looks like this engine has been modified anyone know why that is? And does this effect the overall reliability of the engine?

Looks like it's got headers/extractors. A very minor increase in power, no reliability concerns from an engine perspective, but the OEM manifold is less prone to exhaust leaks by virtue of having thicker flanges etc.

I did a little looking around that site and could not find that particular listing. If you post a link there might be some more clues. From what little I can see I agree with @AussieHJCruza. But I would worry a little about what aftermarket headers portend by way of perhaps other changes to, for example, pistons. I'm wondering if it has an aftermarket turbo on it. On the other hand, I myself have had headers made for a 1FZ-F simply because it was cost effective at the time to do that rather than hunt for the right factory exhaust headers.

I note that the price listed is kind of in the middle range on that site and I'm wondering what characteristics you were searching for to focus on this particular truck. In any event I do hope you find what you are looking for!

Definitely no turbo, the factory crossover is still pulling directly from the airbox.

As far as internal mods with the headers, nobody makes that sort of thing for a 1HZ and the gain would be negligible, an N/A Diesel's number 1 issue is airflow, and the most effective way to fix that is boost.

headers are a pretty common modification over here, not huge gains but an N/A 1HZ needs all the help it can get😂

I have what appears to be that identical header on my 1HZ. No reason to mess with it - your truck is fine as it is. Most of these come from Australia and finding similar stuff here can be a challenge (but there is a US company that imports headers and associated exhaust parts) if you need to replace it, but I just had a complete new exhaust put on and they had no issues at the local muffler shop.

If the rest of the truck is as clean as that part of the engine you may have found you a good one.
