Hello,

I recently purchased a 1994 KZJ78 and am doing my best to give it a look over and figure out what needs replacing/fixing etc. I have been able to find the majority of my problems on here but I can’t find any help for the issue I ran into today. After I got to work I went to turn off the car and to my surprise it kept running with the key out. A quick google search said to pull a relay (can’t remember exactly which one) from the fuze box, but before I could locate the fuze box and pull the relay the car shut off by itself after maybe a minute to two minutes of having the key pulled. I’d greatly appreciate any advice on how to diagnose and fix this problem.

The only thing different about today’s drive is I set (what I assume) the turbo controller to 2.3 (pic attached). I also did some digging under the car when I was inspecting for leaks and found what looks to be 2-3 plugs for aftermarket lights the previous owner installed and then removed. I can provide pictures of those if needed as well. Thank you for your time.

Hello,

I may be stating the obvious here.

Some turbo diesel engines become very hot when they operate either at high speeds or at high rpm; shutting them off in this condition may cause damage. A turbo timer makes the engine idle until it cools down and reaches operation temperature, then shuts it off.

Apparently, the PO was concerned enough with head failure to have this turbo timer installed.

Depending on the driving, the time to shut off may vary.

You can think of it as cheap insurance.

I would either remove the turbo timer completely or leave it as it is.
