Krylon rattle can 0ne year later

As title implies, it's been a year now on what was to be a temporary cover up. Still sporting the $35.00 paint job. The rig has sat outside in the kalifornia sun every day with only minimal fadage on the "sunny side". The running board shows no wear, and I drive this thing daily! Over all very impressed with this stuff!

I used the Krylon Camo ultra flat Khaki. Got the spray cans at the wal-mart for $5.00/can. I went back and couldn't find that paint there. I know it's available at auto parts stores , but cost a little more. By the by, I just painted the outside. The interior Was a similar color so, didn't paint that.

Nice job !!!!!:clap: I wanted to do the same thing with the same brand and make paint , but in their olive drab color,, same ultra flat non reflective camo paint.

How does the paint hold up, with bird remains. Any expierence with that issue? This was my main concern , with no clear coat,, how does the paint hold up to road debris and stones on regular highway driving.

I rather rattle can my rig,,, I have picked various colors,,, Olive drab is a top contender...

The color has faded some, not a whole lot, on the left side which sees sun from sunup to sundown. Bird poo, bird remains, and various other animal DNA comes off with Simple green. All in all, I'm impressed with the finish and durability and what little touch up is cheap and easy. As far as chips, I don't think I have any, now that you mention it. My therory on the cheap rattle can paint job is, If you don't like it , it was fun and cheap to do.

Thanks for the reply,:beer:,:popcorn: Glad I saw your post. It has helped me in going from Duplicolor, to Krylon. Just want to confirm, you did not use any clear coats or equilavlent? I like their olive drab green,,, glad to hear that you can wipe off stuff with simple green. I rather Rattle can my cruiser,, easier, faster future touch up, and cheap, if you do not have any paint guns, or decet compressor

No clear coat on mine, but If there is a compatable clear coat it may be worth a try. I know nothing about clear coat. Post up pics. of your rig regardless of what you use. Good luck!:cheers:
 
The truck hadn't been waxed in a couple of years, so I just scrubbed it down with a green scotch brite and some cleanser, followed by a quick rub down with 400 wet or dry, (wet), rinse, dry. I did remove all emblems, and signal lights, primed bare spots, masked off windows etc. and rattled away. Remember, this was supposed to be a temporary paint job, but my friends and family like it so.....
 
On the clear coat - I rattle canned and clear coated our mailbox as an experiment four or five years ago. In a little over a year it started turning yellow. I resprayed with Rustoleum and it has been fine since.

I guess the moral is that if you do clear coat make sure it is automotive grade.
 
I went nuts on the prep (cleaning, sanding, priming, sanding & cleaning again, then multiple layers of Krylon) for all my blacked out stuff, and within two years it all looks just dark gray. I'm going to have to redo it all, but I'm hoping to get my hands on a urethane spray paint that will stand up to UV exposure better.

Just don't know where the hell I'll find any :hhmm:

Hi I am planning do do pretty much the same. Currently my 40 is a faded dune beige so want to go for the Krylon Khaki as well. How many cans do you suggest for the body ?

Saffa, I think it was 6 or 7 cans. I just did the outside.
 
As mentioned, my truck gets full sun on the driver's side where its's parked. I took a couple of shots today so here 'tis. Passenger side (US) looks perfect, the driver side has faded some but still looks good, in my opinion. The color variation in these pics is more than it really is. The shots were taken at different times of the day. As far as durability, I'm suprised how well it's held up. I need to take a closer pic of pass. side for more detail. Comming up on 2 years now!
