Hello folks .. for those who have Koso gauges installed, you may notice how short it's the cable provided, from the gauge to the sensor ..

I made contact with Koso Tech and they said it's safe extend the cable with same gauge wire, and so I did .. well was my plan to do using 22awg .. the interrogation came when I just cut the cable to find there is a copper mesh around the 2 wires that make the real connection ..

Guess that mesh it's just for safety/protection purposes .?

there is no physical connection between the mesh and the sender or the gauge ...

The mesh/shield is typically there to shield the wires from noise pickup (look at audio cables etc).

If the sensor is high impedance then noise pickup is possible along the length of cable. Use a meter to see if the mesh/shield is connected to the IN- (GND) power connection of the gauge, that will tell you if it is being used to shield the internal conductors from noise.

If it's a low impedance sensor (likely in automotive applications), then you can ignore the shield and just extend the internal conductors.

Or... you can just ask that Koso Tech for confirmation.

cheers,
george.

wasn't ..

The tech guy at Koso was not sure about the mesh think and he was going to ask another tech guy and then reply back to me ( that never happen .. )

thanks George .. !
