Kind of petty BUT found the "hidden" TC cover bolt in FSM

Many have stated that the FSM does not show the hidden TC cover bolt that is under the dist gear.

Not correct. It is clearly shown on page EM-31 of the Engine FSM ( :

Just thought I would let you guys know if you didn't know. Yeah, I got a lot of time on my hands.

I never said it didnt mention this bolt, but if this is[I/] the only mention of it, since its about installation, not removal, still makes it a hidden bolt

My 89 FSM shows the removal on EM 16, but I'm pretty sure it's not in Chilton/Haynes.... which is what most are going off of.... plus the bolt head sits in a puddle of oil.... It's the best way to hide a bolt that I know of! :D

I never said you didn't mention it. It was in another write up. Your write up was very good.

I would disagree on your logic but I follow you.

The FSM should have at least referenced that bolt-regardless of where it was in the manual.

school me on FSM's?

Factory Service Manual from Toyota. Typically, they are a very good resource BUT sometimes they tend to skip over some important details-probably because they assume a mechanic should know.

How much are they usually? And doh! I think I just remember seeing them at my local stealership. :whoops:

Downloadings out I don't have my shop upgraded to 2.0 yet.

I wonder how many hours, broken timing covers that one little bolt has cost...

how about that allen wrench one for the intake by the thermo housing???

Those are the only 2 hidden, or heck to find bolts that I know of.

good find.

Yep!, been there done that. I also snapped an Iron motor support b/c Mr.T decided that ONE!! freaking bolt should go in from another way.

The 14mm bolt that oil and dirt paint black and goes in from the front and into the d-side bellhousing.

And the A/C bracket kills me, I've tried twice and even packed a lunch once, but half way through counting the bolts holes I get tired and lose count.

Good way to get to sleep at night, count the TC cover, A/C bracket and bellhousing bolt holes,
