Euclid - nice job on the mods to the Kaymar. First time I've seen anyone tuck a hi-lift BEHIND the tire carrier. Didn't think one would fit.

Brent, they fit... here's my old XJ with the hi-lift mounted on the swingout.

Just be damn sure never to get rear ended by a vehicle high enough to smack that tire carrier with the hi-lift in place.

I dropped off a ledge steep enough that it pushed my spare into the upper tailgate. It cracked the "Land Cruiser" logo above the OEM license plate holder and put a ding in it as well.:bang:

the sides of the kaymar bumper are not supported/tied to the frame. place much a lever against a high side protection hoop and it will bend. This scenereo is why slee, hannah, and 4x4labs tie the wings of the bumper into the frame

On a week long trip on the Arizona Strip, the side of the the Kaymar bumper put a small crease in the quarter panel when the bumper impacted on a rock.

The Kaymar does not have enough protection on the sides from underneath.

I'm moving to a different bumper as soon as I can.

no worries. i like the design even though it is a different style kaymar! adds to this thread's flavor or should i say flava'

worried that such a smalll mount will not distribute weight across bumper sides.
took a break from this and finished my sliders, well almost.

once i am done with those then i will quit contemplating and start doing!

thinking of building out side of bumper or sticking some angle iron on it and calling it a day! both would be the mount for a small hoop.

IMHO, I think you're on the right track. Since you started this thread, I've been looking at my Kaymar more critically and noticed a few things that have escaped my attention. Like the brace that supports the wing is thicker than the wing sheet metal itself. Also the brace is closer to the end of the wing and better secured to frame than I had remembered. So I think that beefing up that outer sheet metal on the wing, which is what you're proposing, will significantly strengthen the wings for this bumper. Good luck, have at it & keep us informed!

sorry i have not posted in a while. My 4.88s, Superset longfields birfs and front shafts, and polyperformance chromoly rear axles shafts came in. so i have been rebuilding the axles while everything is apart. i will get back to the kaymar shortly!

in the mean time i made a hi lift mount for the swing out.

Nice, nice nice! - got a side view pic showing how close the jack is to the hatch with the carrier closed?

here is a pic of it closed. it has about an inch clearance.

Thanks - wow that bottom bracket really is close. No issues with the carrier flexing an hitting the truck? As much as that thing does flex, that'd be my concern with the 1" clearance. Never the less - nice work!

I will test it soon and find out!
i don't see it being an issue but we'll see. just need to perfect my backing up skills. :hillbilly:

nice work on this hilift mount.
I kinda like having it on the outside of the spare though, more readily accessible, especially in tight quarters where you may not be able to open the swingout.

alright guys finally got around to completing this ! got tired of thinking about and just started welding..
Here is what i came up with for the Southern Cruiser Crawl. at least there is something back there..
