So I'm tearing down my 2F in a few weeks to repair a stripped out manifold bolt and I was wondering about headers on the 55. A buddy of mine raved about them on his FJ40 and I've seen in the old threads that Downey made one that fit well (doesn't do me much good now) but haven't seen much on the MAF 6 into 1 header.

Their description says it should work but when I called them the tech guy said that was a mistake and they wouldn't clear the steering box...?

Is the issue that the header itself hits the steering box, or that it causes the emissions gear to hit the steering box?

My 2F is completely desmogged, so if it is the EGR that is the causing the problem will the MAF header work for me?

Thanks in advance!

I believe it's the header itself that hits the steering box.

Mark A. sells the Downey header now...

Sorry to beat a dead horse, this topic has come up before. I've seen the Downey header referenced a lot but (pending a call to Mark) it doesn't seem to be available.

In the meantime, it does look like a few people have got away with the MAF 6 into 1 header, I'm just not sure how much work that takes.

I've also seen links to JTO's header, but am weary to use them with the feedback I've run across in this and the 40&55 tech forum. My manifold is OK now, the only leak is from a stripped bolt, but I had heard good things about switching to headers with the 2F.

I was thinking of putting in a mini-truck PS setup later on, maybe it'd be better to just wait on changing up the exhaust until I've sorted the steering out...or could be I just shouldn't fix something that ain't broke.

Mini truck PS box sets in same place as pig box, just at a different angle. a 60 series box might clear. another alternative are to use 3FE exhaust manifolds. they are a 2 piece design and breath just like headers, they are a toyota part. the only downsides are that the intake will require modifications and you will need to have dual exhaust pipes run...
