July Long weekend?

That's great Martin, there was no easier way to get my kids to go to sleep when they were younger than the drone of the Land Cruiser; heck it still works wonders.

That is a surprisingly large amount of frame flex, especially for such a heavy duty truck. It doesn't look like the stock suspension has a lot of travel but you still manage to get all wheels on the ground.

the stock suspension does have good travel but its not in the way of articuation as it has beefy front and back sway bars. in order to articulate and be able to carry heavy loads and still have good road manners, mercedes makes their corss country vehicles very flexy. funny part is that i still have not seen its limit.

I saw that on crackbook, that's very impressive for a truck that large.

yes. just typical mercedes but i guess ok for a 5 ton truck. wait till you see the right mog flex.

did you say facebook? how the hell did it get there so fast?

Yes the flex is quite nice for something so large for sure. In surprised it didn't sink that ramp into the pavement .

i put in a note in the suggestion box to get a better ramp for the next event (longer and higher)

in reality, i was very sceptic of driving up that but i had to shoot my mouth off that i can hit the forklift with stock truck so thats what happened. the front axle scales at 4500 kg and at full flex, all the weith is right on the ramp at the most unstable point. i tried to be as gentle as i could but the rig does do awesome for something thats at the bottom of the cross country line up of the manufacture never mind the flagship.

Yeah but it's not the typical Mercedes. Stuff built for the army (which this and the Mog are) is in a different category. The factory G-Wagon, as nice as it is, can't do the same. Entirely different class and purpose of vehicle. For that matter the G wagon can be compared to a Land Cruiser, each with their different pros and cons. Maybe if Toyota was commissioned to build something like a Unimog (or to those specs) they would have done a great job, maybe it would have sucked. That is a totally different class of vehicle built to totally different standards. It doesn't compare to anything else, unless you include other military vehicles built to similar specifications, if there are any.

mat, try not to repeat every retarded, uneducated, not experienced, no clue, living in a hole, wannabe, bs, again wannabe, poser, internet geek, fool, neebie, and.... like the GLENN does. remeber i used to do this s*** for a living. please try not to make such for lack of better term absolutly ignorant comments.

let me tell you how it works with mercedes. they build a car or what ever, they give you an option list, and you can order what you want based on that. you could be a moron like Glen or canadian govenment or some but fxxx no where army. you get what you order based on the options available. anyone can order this truck or what ever else they make unless it has to do with weapons. heck you can probably order the body armour.

for example, this silly 5 ton truck, has a 24 volt system with an engative ground dicconnect option and a center roof hatch. these are the only things that the german military wanted besides the green color compared to say a police department or joe blow that dont care for the 24 volt system.

again just because the moron says its a military specific thing, you don not need to repeat his ignorant bull****.

Im not with you on the g wagon thing either. I'd say any old school g wagon in stock form would school a moderately built cruiser. Based on my limited experience though. Plus i dont think they change there 5 ton frame to much from civilian farm military in flex points. They do seem to have the cab over frame flex points pretty generically dialed in . Again limited on my experience.

Yes Mercedes has chosen to allow its customers to buy any model of their vehicle with any options they want, even ones that were meant originally for other applications. No other manufacturer does that. I'm not arguing that point.
I was mistaken in the fact that unimog was originally built for the military then I remembered it being done for the agricultural industry first. Later different options were offered for different applications and customer specs, some of those customers were military, some agricultural, or other industry. The fact that Mercedes gives these options to any customer is great and wonderful and not done by other companies.
The fact remains is that they weren't designed in the same intention as most of the regular consumer vehicles. They were designed as task specific work horses, and those designs weren't meant for your every day Joe (which could still buy them if he had the cash).
Production Land Cruisers were designed for the every day guy, the fact that they didn't include the options that the UN spec ones did was just Toyota's choice. All I am saying is that they were designed with totally different purposes in mind, So don't get your panties all twised up.

And you hardly are in a position to say anything about Glenn since you don't know the man or his experience.

sorry bud. glen and you are both fools in my view and trust me i can tell withing 2 min of interaction. you two have no clue but yet insist on making a point. your last post is a typical example. just remeber the mat crying the sky falling thread.

weight is the killer. Specially the front.

yap. you have seen that thing sink once remotely off the hard ground the first time we had it out but there is a price to pay when you need to carry cargo otherwise we would just make everything out of paper mache

Im not the smartest guy by no means, and dont pretend to be but you have to see through that i hope. Im sure glenn can light a fire without a flare.

any asshat can make fire the regular way. but have you seen the exitment when done otherwise?

at the end of the day, when you have 45 to make a fire and then fxxx off for the day, every minute counts and you should know this.

What ever man, nobody here is being hostile towards you or slamming you in any way yet you insist on calling people who you don't know anything about names and assuming things about them. But if that makes you sleep better or live with yourself better then fill your boots. I couldn't care less.

You paused the Lance videos long enough to read this thread? A change of bathroom routine?
