I use to have a Pinzgauer. If I remember right you need to have the specific nozzle that comes with the cans. No big deal just make sure you have at least one (not sure if the NATO one works). The Swiss,Germans and Austrians use these and they are sturdy cans.

would this be good for water?
I would not use them for drinking water. Most of the military cans use chemical resistant paints that can be toxic if sanded or ingested. I would stick to plastic jugs for drinking water.
