I was talking with Rick Ellsworth of the USFS yesterday and he mentioned that they have a Jeep in the Gold Camp area that they would like extracted. Apparently, it's been stripped of tires and is on a tricky road. So getting a trailer to it may not be possible. He's checking to the the year and other details to see if he has come tires and wheels that will fit.

Any one up to get a Jeep out of the forest? No dates yet.

Edit: More info.

OK is looks like Rick Ellsworth would like the Jeep out as quickly as possible. The thing is starting to get stripped. The tires and wheels are gone, so we'll have to dig up 4 wheels (and lug nuts) that fit a late 90's Jeep. Some of the suspension is cut out. We'll need to chain the axles to the frame to get it out. As of yesterday the Jeep is on it's side.

I'll be talking with Rick tomorrow to get more details and arranging to pick up equipment we may need.

I'm thinking Sunday the 17th for the recovery. Sorry about the short notice. Rick is worried that waiting much longer will make it impossible to get the Jeep out.

Let me know if you can make it.

I'm interested, but booked for the next few weekends.

I'm planning on being there. I need to replace the front leaf springs and fix a rear brake caliper but I should get that done my then.

I took a look at the Jeep and the routes to it. We are going to need several heavy vehicles. We should be able get the axles to stay in places with some chains and straps. Although I'm not sure that's the way to go. There are two routes to the Jeep one has a lengthy narrow off-camber section and the other I'm not sure that we can pull the Jeep up it. I wasn't able to make it through on the shortest route because of a very eroded section of the trail. We might be able to have a couple of trucks with winches pull it up. ('Cuz who cares if it gets another scratch of dent. :) )

Even if the axles stay in place, I don't think that we'll be able to steer the sucker.

Rick said that Sunday is the best day for him.

Sounds like fun but I can't make it. I'll be at black powder camp out/shoot. Have fun and take pics. Too bad we won't have that picture of a Lexus pulling out a jeep :grinpimp:. That would be a good one for the web page.

So what's missing? Are the control arms gone? I have a set of front springs for a wrangler/cherokee. Maybe even front control arms. I will have to look. Unless it was long armed, then stockers won't help. How the heck do people fnd these things and strip them so dang fast??? Sheesh.

Take some telephone poles up and skid it out? Sounds like an interesting trip, but I won't be able to make it.

So what's missing? Are the control arms gone?

The upper control arms are there (and look stock). Lower control arms, springs and tires (and lug nuts) are gone. So is most the exhaust system. I didn't look inside the Jeep to see what is gone from inside. It does still have the seats, though. It looks like the steering linkage is still there and attached.

Apparently the Jeep has been there a couple of weeks. It was stolen to begin with.

Here's some pictures of the Jeep.

I'm thinking that we should leave the Safeway on South Nevada at 8:30 a.m. With the weather we've been having it might be better to get it earlier in the day. I don't think that it would be too much fun trying to do this in a thunderstorm. :)

Count me out for 8:30 am. I need more beauty sleep than that

Pretty easy recovery. The axles were gone when we got there. We just hooked a chain around the front of the frame of the jeep put it on a short leash to the FJ60 and drove out with it.
