JDM console refrigerator retrofit?

For the cost of the JDM console fridge you could buy all 3 (Engle, ARB, and Norcold) and still have money left over for a lifetime supply of #6 to keep in the fridge.

This is a portion of the needed bits

True. But the way I see it, the most awkward hurdle is the ac piping itself. Need to Tee into the front ac pipes and run new lines to the console area. The wiring and installation and stuff would be the easy part.

The pics show a console cooler with lines that run to the rear ac, which would be a whole 'notha can o worms. If you sourced those exact pipes you'd need to cap off the ends that go to the back which is simple enough.

Neat idea, but IMO a lot of work. Just buy an LX570 because it already has one. Or a 91 diesel in a few years time when you can legally import them.

Bought the LX 450 specifically for it's intended use (farm putt around truck and possibly a FZJ85 later). Supposedly, I'm getting all the A/C lines off the wrecked truck the fridge is coming out of (both trucks are in the Dominican Republic).

The labor to install is cheap. I have ~US$250 quoted towards this project providing everything works :-)

took these pics when was doing my tranny swap .. ( no other way to take 'em with tranny in place )

under console connection pipes ..

maybe you being in canada and him in panama is makes a difference:D

True. Part of the year in Canada, one need only leave the top of the fridge open and the driver's door ajar. Works even when the compressor's not running!:p

On top of the lines , some modules have to be replaced. I was able to source one from Canada, complete and trying to find someone I can collaborate with in getting this done. The oem way shows that this box can run without the truck being on. I assume moving the freon from the high and low lines using the magnetic switch . If this is done right, the cooler box can hold cold temp longer and also without the ac blowing inside the truck.

Alternative: if we cannot get the lines in, maybe we can take an electrical cooler, modify it so it fits the the stock jdm oem cooler box. Basically : oem toyota cooler box on outside, but some aftermarket internals that can run off of +12v when the temp rises and shuts off when the target temp is reached. I was at Home Depot and saw a portable unit for $30. If this fails, I'm sure I can crack that open and place the electronics into a jdm box. Maybe sell it too
