Some local San Diego LC hundy owners are looking at doing Table Top which is near Jacumba (off hwy 8) on Sat June 23rd.

I've personally never been out to Jacumba before, but here is a good link describing a thread about it with some photos

Trail Report Jacumba Mountains

Bob (RB4638) here on Mud knows the area very well and will be attending and showing us the area.

Let's meet at the Walmart off Hwy 8 at Los Coches Rd exit - 9am. There is a gas station & Starbucks close by.

It's about an hour drive from San Diego to the trail head East on Hwy 8.

Plan on spending a few hours on the trials. We will probably leave SD around 9:00 am and should be home around 3-4pm.

Who wants to join us?

Hey guys, This trail is fun. You do not need lockers or even a lift. You will be banging your underside in some areas if you don't have a lift, but nothing some black spray paint won't fix. There are some challenging routes that will keep the purists happy, but there are ways around them if you're not up to testing your front diff. I've got a 12k winch so no one will be left on the trail. Hope we get a few Hundys to make it, guarantee a good time.

Wish I could make this one. I have a prior engagement......

Next trip is?

I've done the Table Top trail last year and it's actually fairly mild, nothing difficult about it that I can remember. It's actually pretty short also, only about 6 miles one way until you hit wilderness where you are not legally allowed to drive your vehicle into.

In my opinion the smugglers cave / Elliot mine trail is more interesting and fun. And both trails are short enough and close enough together that you can do one right after each other in a day trip.

Man I wish I could go and destroy another rack with you guys but I'm headin out to Scorpion Bay on Saturday. Can we try to do another run in July, maybe overnight camp in big bear?

Anyways you guys have fun and remember that you only live once and can't take your toys with you to the ground. So beat em up! :)

I have updated the thread with a meeting place. Let me know if anyone needs more detail on where we are meeting.

3rd Cruiser was looking at organizing a Bishop/Mammoth trip in the middle of July (Fri-Sun). It's higher elevations so it will be cooler. If not that, then we could do a Big Bear camping trip. Big Bear just for a day is not worth the driving, so it is best to stay over night.

July is a busy month for me, so I am not sure if I will be able to make it...

After we do Table Top we can also do a trail that leads to a place called Valley of the Moon. It's a great place to go rock climbing or bouldering. It's a miniature version of Joshua Tree Nat Park if you've ever been. For those who want,it is legal to camp out there. So stay for an hour or stay the night.

Yeah, that's Elliot mine. The view is awesome. Lots of open mine shafts, watch the little kids if you got them.

Hmm.. Camping sounds interesting. I'm thinking it could be hot out in Jacuma. Laguna mtns is on the way home.. Cooler. Anyone interested in spending the night in the Lagunas?

I'm definately coming to this run. Sound like it will be a fun mellow day.

in for wheeling and possibly in for camping.

What is everyone running for Comm's? CB or HAM

New to the area and also just purchased a LC80 (traded in the FJ). Would be interested in joining this run. It will be the first run in the new truck so it will be a learning lesson for me.

I can run both & can relay between each if needed. From experience, most use CB. Some even use FRS.. Either way I think CB is better than nothing.

If your running 2 meter what frequency are you using?

How about 146.58. Backup will be 146.47.

Perfect thanks, I really didn't want to go and buy a CB right now. I'll program those 2 frequencies into my Spare HT.

Bob, Craig,

I can make the day trip portion, as long as you think my stock rig can make it? If so, it looks like I'll need to remove the running boards sooner rather than later...

You should be fine Chuck, but I would definitely remove the running boards. If I'm not mistaken, your rig has AHC. With that and your tires aired down you should have no issues.
