On the last run (or was it the last meeting?), someone (Matt?....maybe Andrew???) was telling me about a guy who makes a rollbar roll cage that fits a scout (....I think it was a scout) that is sized to fit a JK soft top. At least I think that was a conversation I've had???;)

So, was I imagining the whole thing or is there someone out there doing this? Any additional info? I'm playing with the idea of retrofitting it into the 55.

Thanks! :D

p.s. did I mention how unhappy I am with these new smilies?

...well, I guess the mad faced one it pretty cool....

... and there's this thing: :moon:

..but I digress...

get some tube and you can make whatever you want. If you get the soft top you can just build it to fit inside. nothing but measure and test fit 10 times then cut.

Yeah, that was the original plan, but someone mentioned this and if I can just order one and pop it in...

Probably won't chop the top off anyway, really just me thinkin' out loud.

Wasn't me. I bet you can get a reasonably priced soft top made for whatever you build. Upholstry shops repair and remake convertable tops, and I'm sure J**p tops all the time.

Yeah, not really just the top per se, but the whole shebang. I would only chop the top off if I could find a way to use the little door panel thingies. I'd like it to still be usable all year. Again, just playin' with the idea. You think an upholstery place making a custom top would be around the same price as picking up an aftermarket top from 4Wheel Parts, or maybe a softtop from a wrecked JK out of a yard?

??? Again just spinning my wheels at this point. Still a lot of work to do before I have to make a decision on the roof / rollcage. But yes Kyle, checking out your 40 in person surely did light a fire under my arse. :-)

No, I guess it would be much less expensive to pick up a used one form a parts yard/CL/fleebay/JC Whitney. I'm not sure I understand the direction you are pondering going on this one. I was picturing using the rollbar and canvas from the jeep in place of the top/rear section of the wagon...

.... but now that I see it.... I think I might stick to my original plan (even though it'll be more work to fab up the rear of the cab, repair the door internals, fab up a rear window channel, etc,)....... ???

It wasn't me who you talked too but I think the roll cage is a great idea with the bikini top. If it saves you work and is cool you get the best of both worlds. Just rhino line the entire interior and you can just hose it out, and if water gets in it also won't be a big deal.

Man... I could have swore it was one of you two. ??? Kyle, did you mention something at the meeting? Oh well....

Here's a cool 55 "Rhino" from AZ has. Sort of the inspiration for chopping off the top, but I'd like to keep the rear seats and have some kind of side wind protection. ???

Were you thinking of when I told you that Mike bought a JK bikini top for his Bronco and was going to make it fit? I don't think he ever got around to doing that. He was just going to make it clamp on the front windshield, and tie to the rear roll bar, no doors or anything. Pretty sure that's a JK windshield on Rhino's FJ55.... Oh the sacrilege! You'd lose a few friends around here for that!
