plumes of smoke poured out from under the hood. Can't be a good thing.
Dramatic loss of power, lot's of smoke and as soon as I pulled over (or took her out of gear) she made a coughing sound then stopped.

Sucks bein on a bugget hey:D

So whats the prognosis? is she gona live?

I sure hope so. I started to rip her apart this aft. Of course, power steering belt tightening bolt broke when I tried to loosen it. Had to remove the entire bracket. Then the AC belt tightener bolt bent whilst I was trying to remove it, so I had to remove the entire bracket. Luckily the alternator bracket bolts sheared off a couple of weeks ago, so at least the alt/fan belt came off easily. BTW, should I be able to rock the 3B and see it move around. Seems like it moves quite easily, but we (Rob) changed out the mounts a couple of years ago. Seems strange, I don't beat on her too bad.

Hope it was just all the oil blew out the side, then the edic shut it off due to low oil pressure, and it will be an easy seal replacement oil fill up and good to go for another 300,000km. Cheers and good luck,
Deny

I'm with Deny and Brownbear on this. I think it was probably the crank seal. Oil pressure was fine, temp was fine, I'm sure the low pressure cut off killed the EDIC and shut her down as soon as I pushed in the clutch. The reason for the oil sprayed all over is the fan.

Yeah probably just your trucks way of saying change my oil now, and puke it all out. pain in the neck for sure.

As for your engine moving problem, mine never moves, but I think in the 60series it is a very common problem of breaking 3B engine mounts, I know my brother changeds his out, and his have broke again. I think a fix is to put a limiting chain on the engine, so it doesn't move as much therfore saving the mounts. Talk to Bowie about this, as I am pretty sure he has done this.
Cheers,

BTW, Deny I haven't really decided what I'm doing with the winch stuff I have. I have found an out of the way spot to put them so I'm not tripping over them everyday, which in turn means I'm still hanging on to them. Project Resurrection will be getting the new 9500/Air Comp. But that leaves no winch for the "Duck" and the Duck has always required a winch :o

I've got a seal here for you
at least there are no connecting rods sticking out of the pan

No Problem, I got a winch to replace the one off blue, but I am still (slowly) looking for another 8274 for rusty. So if you down the road want to get rid of it, let me know.

clean it up, fill with oil and run it. See where it leaks. You might be able to spot the leaks on a short run.

Steven... do you have 3b engine mounts in stock? Mine would be for an 84 built in Oct/Nov 83, 60 series. I would buy LH and RH mounts. Then put a limiting strap on the LH side.

I'm sure mine are split. When I last wheeled it(3 yrs ago) I was climbing a hill and it would slip out of 4wd. Heavy torque at the time.

My FJ80 does a similar thing, but it pops out of 1st gear on the auto trans. I think the linkage is being twisted away from the trans when it is under a steep climb. At least it can't pop out of 4wd :)

Well... She's done :frown: After starting "FunOne" (Andrea named her, from Wee3) and seeing horrendous amounts of smoke coming from both the tailpipe and blow-by, I revved her up a little and upon the rev down cycle there was a lot of rattling noises coming from the old 3B. Quite a sad day on Sunday, I think my kids took it hardest. On the other hand, this is the kick in the butt I needed to get "Project Resurrection" under way.
Please bow your heads in a moment of silence :p
