Dude, I thought you avoided this place? :flipoff2: Did you consider "trailbitch" as a user id? Somewhere I have some pics with the magnet on board. Glad to see you show your face.

Yes, there are a few here but since nearly all members are on Yahoo this place is kind of dead. Seriously though, what are the chances of getting members to slide on over here? Even if there were a few of you GCLC regulars here it would help spread the word that there really is a club and you guys are awesome to wheel with.

Just think, you could be a mod in your spare time.

There was talk on the YT list about them dropping Yahoo altogether, so I thought it was worth looking into. I personally like the plain old email format of Yahoo, but I haven't played around with this interface yet. Perhaps someone can tell me why they like this better?

Hope you and the Wendinator are doing well in your new digs. I miss you guys.

BTW, that was some nice shot of you in Henry's calendar. I wish I had a rig like that ;) .

Peace.

Well, it may be time to get out of the 90's and into the 21st century. At one time I liked the idea behind the email lists but what really made me change my mind was how you can see all posts as you scroll through them. Scrolling is a good thing, not having to open each post is soooo much nicer and more efficient.

It makes posting/sharing pics a lot easier.

The MUD board is hosted by a cruiserhead and tied to TLCA so it won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Since I have been on MUD I am surprised by the constant improvements in both hardware and software Woody (Brian) is making, showing that this isn't some amateur operation.

By far what I consider paramount to the proliferation of GCLC is the exposure here. (like the big words?) There are a lot of cruiserheads in the NE and those that do not frequent Yahoo see the club as dead. Currently the GCLC "clubhouse" is virtually dead and with the exception of the few folks that check here regularly to attempt to forward individuals on to the Yahoo site they think it is dead, which we know isn't the case. Hell, before I moved to LI in '04 I was checking here and thought the club had died all together until I found the Yahoo site. Checkout page 2 of the advertising pdf as there is some info to the traffic this site generates.

As a general statement if people asked about Land Cruiser or Toyota bulletin boards the top two that will come up are Pirate and IH8MUD. If you have frequented Pirate you'll know there is some great info available but the attitudes can be obnoxious. At least here folks are generally pretty cool and the bad attitudes stay away.

One last note. Some of you guys in the club have come up with some great setups and have a wealth of information that you are willing to share, this is a great place to pass it on to the newcomers.

Wendy says hello. With the exception of work things are going pretty well out here. We miss trees and hills but visiting Ouray over Thanksgiving helped out.

Yeah, I had trouble trying to remember my GSMTR trip.

On a side note. I know Mark uses Mac do you? I contemplating replacing my laptop with a desktop unit and with all the trouble PC's are I want to look into Mac's. Do you have any recommendations?

Cheers,

Wow,

I just spent 20 minutes replying to your last post, quoting and editing text. Then I wrote 4 paragraphs on macs vs. pcs and when I went to send I was timed out of the forum and unable to log back in. All was lost.

That's enough for me. I'm pretty pissed right now.

I'm not sure why it would have timed you out, that's very strange. I have had one problem since Woody went to vBulletin 3.6.x. For some dam reason it has not shown itself yet. It is certain issues with Firefox and IE 7. This has been a problem ONLY with BB's that are using 3.6 and newer versions. Every other BB that I go to has no issues. It is very annoying. I have been after Woody to try and find the problem but so far he hasn't found any smoking gun. My laptop is due for a reformat anyway so when I get around to it hopefully it'll fix it.

When I get to typing something lengthy I usually end up cutting and pasting to Word to have a backup. It's pretty F'in frustrating at times.

drop the Ya

It make sense to me to drop the Yahoo. we have no presence on the MUD and any useful information either inbound or out bound can not be viewed buy the Toys out in the rest of the world. As well no pictures two places to keep up with and …..

Personally this web interface requires too much effort on my part. I like the idea of filtering email messages, discarding the ones that don't interest me, and reading/answering when I have time to do so. I live through Outlook. It's always running and email is checked often. With this interface topics must be manually searched and there is no instant feedback unless you are constantly monitoring/refreshing. Yahoo has it's problems, but its simplicity makes it worthwhile to me.

However, I don't speak for the club. I am a member of GCLC and am also helping out where I can. Perhaps we could open a discussion in all forums about this, get some more folks involved, etc.

BTW, GCLC could use some more hands-on help with club operations to bring us into the next wheeling season. If you (the collective you) could lend 1 or 2 hours a week it would make a huge difference.

you are welcome to come on by my shop "Brooklyn Machine Works" I am just over the Williamsburg bridge we could go over some ideas there or I can roll into the city on night?

I can try and help out some, it may be somewhat difficult being in KS doesn't do a ton of good.

I would be up for a drink or 3 and some snacks after work one evening. Maybe it's time for another meeting;) .

I don't know if you guys read the meeting minutes I posted, but Brian has been pres of GCLC for the last 2 seasons and wants to step down. However he has agreed to spearhead this years CMCC and has done a lot of leg work already.

Basically we need some "fresh blood" to energize the club. After last years CMCC we kind of stagnated. I'd like to see more trail rides during the season and a greater turn out of club members at rides and events and meetings.

I'd be willing to do any Friday evening. BTW, what's your name?

how would the 5th be? Joe

Jan 5 looks good right now. We could meet at my office in Times Square if you don't mind free beer and snacks. If not, there are plenty of local bars or we could meet somewhere else altogether.

Are you still on the Yahoo mail list? If so, please let people know we're getting together for drinks and Cruiser BS. Maybe you can generate more interest than I.

I'm brand new :)

I'm totally new to everything off road, but a major reason I bought my new FJC was to get into it. Obviously I dont want to go totally nuts and risk wrecking the truck, but I'm not afraid of getting it out there. I plan on attending as many trail events I can get away to (I'm from near Albany, NY)

Cool. Welcome to our group. You're not far away at all. We usually hold 2 rides a year up in Cairo, NY at a club member's property. It's a great place to get dirty for the first time.

Folks have already started working towards CMCC 07 in July. If we can maintain the head of steam it should be a great event.

FYI there is also a Yahoo email list that most GCLC members are subscribed to. Not many folks have made the switch to MUD yet. You can join from the GCLCNY.com website.
