Is this GX a good buy?

I’ve spent over $25k in repairs and upgrades over 8 years, so I’m fully aware of the cost of new Toyota/Lexus oem parts.

Rig is worth a look to confirm condition.
I haven't added mine up lately but last time I checked it was $30K including the rig. I bet I'm at or even over $40K now after upgrading the diffs and doing the GX460 brake upgrade :).

Buying someone else's pre-built rig they are selling at a loss is certainly cheaper (I'd lose a my shirt if I were to sell my rig, finding a buyer might prove tough given how much I've modified it), But you miss the fun of DIYing the build yourself.

Nice GX with most of the typical problems already fixed. The pricing is premium (maybe not so much for the PNW market) but definitely less than paying for these mods individually. However, you could get a decent 4runner or taco and just slap on new wheels/tires for that price and also not lose your shirt on insurance payout if you got in a wreck.

I'd be toasted if my GX got in a wreck today. First, I bought it from a salvage auction. Second, it only has liability insurance since it's a Rebuilt Title. Idk even know if they would do full coverage on it. Thirdly, it was always meant to be a learning project vehicle since it had things needing fixed that I'd never done before. Like replacing the whole rear quarter panel requiring welding. So far, all in with mods, tools, and vehicle purchase I'm a little under $25k. But that includes a full suspension redo. Coilovers, airbag delete, all upper and lower control arms, sway bars, interior refresh, full brake refresh including new front hardlines. I expect it will get closer to $30k mark in the next year. I just need to paint it to complete the body work, going with the TRD Pro Lunar Rock color. After that is done, comes drivetrain performance upgrades! I've had my eye on long tube headers, full exhaust, and a supercharger :-D

Thanks for the helpful feedback everyone!
I'm the new-to-forum brother in law in question. Some really awesome perspectives and details I had not considered.

I spoke to the seller and learned that there are no physical records of any of the work besides Carfax, getting receipts from garages it has been to, or parts vendors.

With that in mind, I am less keen on the whole prospect. Though it's a fair price considering all the mods, I would have more peace of mind getting something more stock and knowing I made any changes just the way I like it. No fault to the seller, he seemed like an upfront gentleman and serious GX enthusiast.

@M3GX, as a fellow Lunat Rock lover, I wouldbe stoked to see your build when complete, sounds amazing!

s*** for 2K more i'd sell mine and its got WAAAAY more and had all maintenance done. If going by that price I should list mine for 26K:rofl:
