After a long apprenticeship with AHC/TEMS on LC100, I an now learning about the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) on our 2020 LC200 .....

Multiple efforts have been unsuccessful in overcoming persistent repetitive "Lean" to the Right of 25mm to 50mm (1" to 2") at Rear, less at Front. Correction lasts only a few 100 kilometres (or miles) and the "Lean" re-develops. Addition of a 30mm spacer at Right Rear has not stopped reappearance of the "Lean".

Corrective methods have focussed on attempting to adjust KDSS by partially open valves, jacking whole RHS, or, riding LHS Rear up on 50mm or 75mm (2" to 3") timber plank, allowing vehicle time to settle, then closing KDSS valves -- following the explanations given in multiple YouTube videos. Rocking the vehicle also has been tried. Most recently, a 30mm spacer was added at RHS Rear.

While initually successful at eliminating the "lean", none of these methods have resulted in a fix lasting more than a few hundred kilometres (or miles)!

So I am wondering whether this is really about the KDSS system itself? Or whether it is really about the need for more load-carrying capacity, especially in the Right Rear spring, to cope with the heavily Right-sided weight distribution?

Ideas and information from anywhere would be very welcome.


Back story .....

The LC200 has had the following extensive Engineer-certified upgrades to make it capable of coping with long distance cross-country touring on remote Australian back roads and trails. The loaded and equipped vehicle will weigh about 4000kg (8800 lbs) while towing a 2800kg (6160 lbs) AOR Off Road Caravan and which includes a Tow Ball Mass of about 280kg (616 lbs), carried by the LC200. The Upgrades include:

4200kg Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) Upgrade (9240 lbs GVWR),
7700kg (16940 lbs) Gross Combined Mass (GCM) Upgrade with Caravan,
2850kg (6270 lbs), Upgraded Rear Axle Load Capacity with Replacement Rear Axle and Diff Housing,
new Front struts and UCA's,
Front Diff Drop,
new Rear Springs and new Rear Control Arms and new Rear Panhard,
Overall about 3" Lift,
Brown Davis 180 litre (47.6 gallons) Long Range tank,
KAYMAR Rear Bar with RHS Spare Wheel Carrier,
ROH Assault 17"x 9" 35P Wheels all round with LT285/70R17 WILDPEAK AT4W tyres,
existing ARB steel Summit Bar (no winch), ARB Base Rack, ARB Intensity lights.

Vehicle Mass at Weighbridge, with total of 273 litres (72 gallons) Diesel on board, no other loads nor people on board:
Rear Axle: 1620kg (3564 lbs)
Front Axle: 1720kg (3784 lbs)
Total Mass: 3340kg (7348 lbs) -- this is effectively the new Kerb Weight before loading the vehicle

No.


Those videos are wrong. Using blocks to articulate the suspension then attempting to lock in that articulation doesn't work because the system has a way to balance itself internally, albeit very slowly. On top of fundamentally being the wrong way to fix a problem.

If you are curious how the internals of the valve work, I cut one up a while back to understand it.

If the rig won't sit level with the KDSS balance screws open, it is caused by the coils.
