I'm in the market for a 4runner or land cruiser and found this on craigslist and what to know what you guys think. Thanks for any help.

1987 Toyota 4runner

For sale is an 1987 Toyota 4runner SR5 moon roof 4 cyclinder 5 speed. It has a Jasper crate motor with an LC Engineering header straight to a 2 1/4" flowmaster super 40 (have stock cat). The truck to be picky outside is an 8 of 10 inside is an 9.5 of 10. Polk audio speakers in front and pioneer 6x9's hidden in the rear, and has newer upolstry. It has 4" skyjacker springs in the rear with procomp shocks the diff has 4.88 gears and a lockrite locker and at the same time replaced the axle seals and brake pads. Infront is a FRESH SAS the housing was stripped and painted, the diff has 4.88 gears, the knuckles were rebuilt, and all seals were replaced. The brake rotors were turned and has new loaded callipers with stainless brake lines all the way around. Used allpro spring hanger kit with allpro hi-steer kit with procomp shocks sits at about 5.5" of lift. This is truely a gorgeous truck and have allways gotten compliments everywhere I went. MUST SEE to appreciate!!!!! Asking $6000 NO TRADES!!!!!! Hanve I have 10K invested

I suppose that price is decent. I would still try to talk him down to 4,500 or 5,000.

Concerns:
1) It doesn't have a front driveshaft in the picture, that could be expensive to have built if you can' do it yourself. (600-800 bucks).

2) those front springs are not all pro springs, take it for a drive. A lot of aftermarket springs are rough and have no articulation. All pro springs are longer, and you have to have that new front cross member turned the way it is to make the frame an inch or so longer, but those are not all pro springs. So he might have moved those shorter springs too far forward. you have to check the shackle angle and make sure it is not straight up and down. Should be about 22-30 degrees, and he did not do the U-bolt flip kit which gives you a lot more clearance from the rocks.

3) that's an '83 or older front axle. the truss doesn't go all the way across, but more importantly,I think they have smaller weaker knuckle top studs which can break under the stress of high steer arms. Not sure when they changed to the larger studs.

4) take a close look at all the welds, those on the drivers side look a little booger-y, but that don't mean they're not strong.

Other than that, It's a really nice truck.......just prettier than I would want. :D

1198, I responded to your post on another forum section, and PM'd you. My truck is similar to this one (see sig) and is still for sale. You can't find too many R151f trannies these days... ;) plus Old Man Emu is hard to beat for suspension. And my front drive shaft has been getting me through snow and ice all week :) :) Gimme PM
