Probably a question I already know the answer to, but figure I'll post it anyway. Popped open the hood this morning and found my battery in this condition. 09 LX570; 99,450 miles. Bought it at 85k from dealership, so unknown if this is the original OEM battery or replacement.

Guess the batter is done for?

Which battery do you guys/gals recommend? Last I checked, Walmart's batteries were high rated yet cost effective.

Your battery looks fine to me, unless it will not start or weak start, why would you say it is toast? The build up on the mounting bracket? Can't tell by just looking unless it is exploded or physically damage.

No issues with starting.

Just concerned about that buildup. Never seen that before. Do you know what it is?

Should I just clean it up with vinegar?

All batteries have a sticker that shows how old it is, so find out when it was made and see if you’re comfortable with the age. Batteries’ lives fluctuate considerably, but a typical life is 3-6 years. I personally like to replace around the 3 year mark, but I run a single battery and require a lot of mine. I’d also suggest picking up a tester like this one and periodically testing it to ensure it’s healthy. https://www.amazon.com/ANCEL-Professional-100-2000-Automotive-Motorcycle/dp/B01M0ARG3X?tag=ihco-20

Quite common on the build up when acid fume release from the cap whole battery is changing. Just mix baking soda with water and pour over it, you may want to remove the bracket to clean it, then rinse with clean water and you are good.

That's good to know. Thanks!

You're battery's probably fine. You can clean it up with water but you can also get some battery terminal cleaner. Walmart and Costco batteries have always worked well for me but they don't seem to carry size 27F any more but you can use 24F. 24F is a little smaller but fits and works fine. If you want 27F you can order one from Sears.

That is a Bosch battery so the battery has been replaced at least once since new. Take the tie bar off and soak it in baking soda and warm water. Rattle it black.

Costco does carry 27F size battery, I am not sure if varies by location. I just picked one up for my 201 in Houston.

I don't think you need a new battery, just clean off the mount with baking soda and water. That said my battery was weak in my 2013 so I replaced it this year with a Duracell (Deka) which was <$100 from Sams Club.
