Are you saying po just swapped grills without all the associated lights and supports etc.?

I believe that's the case.

I may not be able to get to it today, but I'll re-swap the original grille as well to see what the deal is.

Attaching the grill is problematical. The grille mounts to the headlamps and the center grille brace. none of that stuff lines up properly. It could be scabbed in if you don't care how good it looks.

What are you saying about me? :D

Yeah, it's less than perfect and I have thought about swapping back the old grille on to see how well it fits (and I'm sure it will fit perfectly:D )

Hey Mot,

How about some "before and after" pic's? Seem like enough folk have the "grass is greener" syndrome that it'd be good information.

P.S. Welcome Sea Knight ;)

Forget about the Satoshi grill, for 700 bucks you can do it. You can change it from Toyota to sombrero. Check this 1994 out.

I want the TOYOTA not the Sombrero. Did you happen to save your Toyota grill?

J

Oh crap. I thought you want to switch from the "TOYOTA" to "T". Whoops, sorry.

First of all, is it "grill" or "grille"? :D

Anyway, I've dragged out my lazy butt and swapped the grill(e) for the first time since I picked up the rig last Nov.

WARNING!!!

(As usual) Shameless post-padding thingy coming on!!!

Skip to #58 for the end result! :flipoff2:

Pic 1: Current set-up (My rig is a '90 and the PO had put on the sombrero logo grill(e)).

There are five spots where you can secure the grill(e) with screws and another pop-in place (will follow later)

Pic 2: Top right screw point

Pic 3: Top left screw point (This pic actually shows all you'll need to see the difference between the two types of grilles in terms of installation/construction difference) You see the gap between the grill(e) and the headlamp extention where the securing screw needs to go?

Pic 1: Lower-right screw spot (different; cannot be used)

Pic 2: Lower-left screw spot (different; cannot be used)

Pic 3: The center-bottom screw spot (same; can be used)

The rust on the center panel piece was caused by having the OEM bumper cover rub on it forever.

Pic 3: The middle "clip" thingy can be removed by pressing down on the part where the tip of the screw driver is

OK, so I fell asleep. :D

Pic 1: Back side

Pic 2: On the right

Pic 3: New

Pic 1: Actually, the part that came unattached, holding the center part of the grill(e) should have stayed with the grill(e):

So even if you're going from the new to the old "TOYOTA", I believe you'll encounter the same issue of not being able to utilize two of the five screw points.

You'll still be able to use the upper two, the middle (lower) screw point, as well as the clip in the middle which should be strong enough to secure the grill(e) in its place.

HOWEVER, I have noticed that the lower part of the grill(e) tends to wiggle around a lille, so it might scrape the paint off of the painted part below the grill(e) same piece where it showed some rust earlier.

Anyway.... a long winded answer to such a simple question!

Who could ask for anything more.... TOYOTA! :hillbilly:

Mot ;)
