Is it necessary to replace deafening tar after water damage?

Diff breathers on our trucks are not wide open to atmosphere. There is a lightly sprung rubber check valve in there that slows air return when the axle is submerged and cooled quickly.

I’m not guaranteeing there isn’t water in there, merely saying it is not a sure thing. Depends on how long it was submerged. Checking to make sure isn’t a bad thing, but you may be able to reuse the fluid.
Yes, I have already reached out to them to change the rear diff fluid just to be precautious. Thank you

I'm rereading what I wrote and it was quite judgmental and assuming. You are entirely right about priorities and abilities. I would encourage you to comfortably learn about your cruiser, and maybe you can save some future coin towards other mods or gas for trips!
I would also recommend asking the dealer to unplug any connectors that were exposed to water and 1. blow them out with compressed air and 2. appply dielectric grease.
Did you stereo amplifier sustain any damage? normally those things fry quickly.
I’m learning as I go, I find working on my cars fun and rewarding. But now that I live in Manhattan, working on it myself is physically constrained if not impossible. I miss my garage and tool carts, and most importantly the SoCal sunshine.

Sorry about your incident. I’m surprised you only carry liabilities on your rig. I would do full coverage to avoid theft incident or any incident that will be cover by insurance. You have invest too much on the rig that it’s better to carry full coverage insurance.

Good luck with the repair. I’m local to the dealer if you need any help.

Yes, I am in touch with my agent. Thank you all for the good advises.

Since they have the interior stripped out, I would 100% add some dynamat were it me. Quieter is nice!

If you are the overlander that your instagram would lead one to believe this should be nothing. But maybe this is a mall-crawler. You should be proud to have used your land cruiser as it was intended. This is the kind of things that will happen when offroading.

Welp...you win “unhelpful comment of the week” award. Congrats.

Suggesting he somehow delegitimizes himself for being concerned or seeking help is pretty absurd. That kind of attitude is thankfully rare on this forum, or it wouldn’t be the valuable place that it is.

Water damage can wreak havoc and can be **particularly** concerning in the 200 because there are sensitive wiring harnesses that vulnerable at the floor level—no matter what sort of floor material might be swapped instead of carpet.

How would you suggest these are protected by replacing carpet with vinyl?? They aren’t:

Water drenching these is capable of disabling the vehicle. Flawed design? I think so. But it means that he has reason for concern that’s legit whether he’s new...or a long term wheeler.

Suggesting he’s a mall crawler because he doesn’t shrug off water damage is pretty lame...
:meh:
