Hi all,
I thought I'd share something I resolved this weekend.
I have been having trouble with the PCM on my LS powered FJ60 for a couple years now and kinda gave up until recently. The smog shop hasn't been able to smog the vehicle cause they cant read the PCM with their equipment. The most they could do is get the code scanner to work, but when they try to connect their diagnostics equipment to it it wont communicate.
To try and solve this I bought a HP Tuners mpvi3 and tried connecting it this weekend. At first I got the same results so I jumped on the hp tuners forums and found out about that ipods and some aftermarket stereos can interfere with the PCM. As soon as I unplugged the ipod everything worked!
I have no idea why an ipod would interfere with a PCM or ECU, but it seems to be a well documented problem on the hp tuners forums and I thought I'd share. Disappointing considering my whole music library was on that thing.
