Hello All.

Picked up an 86 4 runner last night. It is going to stay stock for the time being. Something the wife can drive in the winter, and camping etc.

I've been looking and looking and looking for a 1st generation in good shape. I know that they are getting rare, but I knew that if I held out long enough I would find what I wanted.

I was starting to get discouraged. In fact on Friday night I mentioned to my wife that it may be time to formulate a plan B.

I've got an 85 FJ60 that is my truck. It's on 35's, locked, armored etc. It's rusty and gets horrible mileage. After we moved to Colorado I drove it 50 miles a day for 9 months or so. Top speed....65 mph.

So this summer we started carpooling, except for fridays when I would have to drive my wagon to work. That got real old as I end up spending over 2 hours on the road everyday.

Long story short, I picked this up last night.

It's an 86 SR5. It must have every single option, as I cannot think of anything it does not have. Power windows, Power Locks. Cruise, A/C, Sunroof, Maplights etc.

Overall it is a gorgeous truck. It has 3 rust spots starting, none of which have even perforated the sheet metal. 2 spots on the passenger rear fender, 1 spot on the driver rear fender. Paint is still shiny. Good tires too.

Interior is really nice. No rips or tears. A few stains but I have a friend who is a whiz with interiors and he claims it will look brand new.

Only catch...needs a motor. Current motor is a siezed 22RE. So I'm gonna start shopping for a rebuild.

I'm chomping at the bit to tear into this thing.

Picking up the following tomorrow:
Remanufactured Short Block
Master Gasket set
Oil Pump
Water Pump
Timing chain kit
Head Bolts

Ordered the following
Doug Thorley Header

Still Need:
Clutch kit (OEM or other???)

Belts, hoses, plugs, cap/rotor, wires, oil, antifreeze, etc.

Gonna have the head inspected as well.

Am I missing anything?

If I get my clutch and header by friday I might just have it driving this weekend!

That's a great looking truck!

Given that there is a hole in the block, you really won't know what kind of shape the head is in until you pull it. The could be damage to the cylinder side of the head and you'd never know it. Did you clean that head with anything? It looks way to clean! What happened to this motor, do you know? Everything looks brand new, almost like it was run with no oil flow.

Silver:confused:

What an Ugly ass Runner, My Dog has Crapped out better looking Turds..

and what kind of Idiot would buy a truck with a hole in the block:frown:

you need a Red one, with a white hood/Left Fender, Lots of Rust, and a Pink Top, with a 2nd gen Bumper and Grill..

:flipoff2:

J/K, that thing looks sweet, Call me after work and we can tear off that head!
