Hey everyone!
After a I posting a thread about considering a 100 to replace my TJ, I decided to dive right in! Aside from a few minor issues I think this 100 checked out almost perfectly. The seller was super cool to deal with and I ended up taking it for $11.5k. She has 247k miles and I took a truck load of spare parts, 3rd row seats, a roof spoiler, extra rear hatch, stock bumper & running boards, and fat stack of maintenance records.
On the drive back to Denver I noticed a minor floor & seat focused vibration. The steering wheel was totally solid (rack & pinion and tie rod ends only have about 30k miles!). I believe what I felt to be a combination of two things - the tires haven't been balanced since 2021, and both outer CV axle boots are completely torn (CVs are still greasy and don't click or bang yet). Those, as well as new shocks, will be the first things I handle and I bet she'll be totally good to hit the mountains!
Consensus seems to be OEM or CVJ reman are the go to for CVs. I'm lucky in that CVJ is only about 10 miles from my house so I can save on shipping.
Any specific shock recommendations? It has 8 year old Bilsteins now and the seller himself suggested they be replaced soon. I was never a fan of Bilsteins on TJs but not sure how they're regarded on 100s. Are OEM replacements best here? No plans to lift it right now but it will see some light off roading to camp sites for sure.
The FAQ and general community participation on this forum are unbelievable. I'm really stoked to see how deep I can dig into this thing using just the resources here.
Here's a quick pic I grabbed on the way home!
