Hello all. Finally getting around to posting here. I bought a 2011 GX last year with Super HIGH mileage (288k) but in good condition. However last October my brother and I were driving it from LA to Boulder CO and the transmission went out. So while I'm not proud of it, I'm also not ashamed to say yes...I blew a tranny in Utah. Luckily we were not that far from a town that I was able to get the truck to. Had to rent a car for the rest of that trip and when I got back to LA, I was able to find a Lexus reman tranny at the dealer and had it shipped out to Cedar City. Anyway, my daughter has it now in Boulder and I plan on picking her and the truck up in August, doing some off roading and bringing it back to LA.

I've been talking to people I meet on the street with Toyotas & Lexuses?, Lexi? and learning about their builds and where they off road locally. Looking forward to getting deeper into the hobby.

Don't know where you're at in L.A., but I'm in South Orange County and belong to a 4x4 club call Capo Valley Wheelers (Capo Valley 4 Wheelers - https://www.cv4w.org/ )
It's a pretty large club with about ~55 members and been around since the early 1990's. The club is quite diverse in it's runs. Usually in the Summer/warmer months we'll do the high country like Big Bear and other high country runs. In the winter and cooler months we'll do deserts like Mojave, Death Valley, etc.
We're not a 1 horse show either, meaning we only do one type of wheeling. We are very diverse with just overlanding for several days that an almost any stock 4x4 could do, or you can do some rock crawling, or just camping for the weekend, car shows, parades, etc. You can pick and choose what events you want to go to. We usually have at least one event per month, sometimes several.
The club is mostly Jeeps, but we do have a few Toyota products, aside from my GX and my wife's 4x4 Taco. I always tease the Jeeps on hot or cold runs about my heated and cooled seats, heater/AC and dust free cabin. Many of the Jeeps are either older or are not enclosed cabins.
Anyways, PM me if you're interested in visiting us. We meet first Wednesday of the month.
