Hello can someone with knowledge in this let me know if a front differential from either a sequoia or tundra is interchangeable with my 99 100 series? I suspect the gearing could be different, but hope not. My front differential is toast and i can't find any used 100 series here in Canada. Not even lx470's they're obsolete! Dealer wants $2000 for gear and pinion or $2900 for complete front differential. Please advise🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

While this isn't apples to apples because you're in Canada, when I was shopping around for a front diff, I saw (at the time) complete assembled units for 2,000$. Upon contacting a local drivetrain shop for a quote, I could get my diff completely overhauled with new internals and an ARB airlocker for 2400$ with a warranty on labor by bringing them the detached unit and parts from Cruiser Outfitters. If you off-road frequently, you may wish to consider an option like that.

While your MY is the "weaker" 2 pinion, I'd still make sure it's the diff. More than one shop and report of diff failure here has just been the c-clips.

x2 . Blew mine up last Spring. Rebuild by a drivetrain specialist with new R&P and bearings (stronger than new because waaaay tighter tolerances than these come set up by Mr. T [because who wants to get their brand new car from the dealer and worry about diff break-in and an oil change after a couple hundred miles?). And a Harrop e-locker--about $2400 USD out the door, with me dropping the diff myself and bringing it to them. Even when not locked, this system is stronger--stiffer carrier plus tighter tolerances.

If you have the money and can handle the down time, this is a much better route than an unknown-quantity used model.

Alternatively, pull the front hub flanges and drop the front driveshaft, lock your CDL, and you now have a 2WD LC you can drive indefinitely.

No. Surely you can buy a used 100 diff from the US and have it shipped up there, right? I found two in Canada - one in BC and one in Ontario:

Here’s a bunch of 2000-2002 MY 4-pinion (stronger) diffs. A couple are in BC...

Sounds like a bad idea for Calgary during winter 🥶 Turns the Cruiser into a Ford Mustang fishtailing into bystanders.

Nitro R+P and rebuild kit cost me, shipped, $750. That came with diff seals. I removed and reinstalled it myself. Had it rebuilt at a shop familiar with Toyota diffs for $450. So all in, about $1200 in parts and labor for me, doing the R&R myself.

There is one at GT Auto Recyclers in 100 Mile House (240-395-3441)
Southside auto wreckers un Saskatchewan shows another one (306-842-2641)

I wondered what happened to your rig. I think I saw it some months ago in a shop in Banister road with insurance writing on it.
I saw you a bunch of times in Chaparral and in those apartments in Legacy.
I drive a Gold LX470

While it sounds tempting, I'm not looking to spend that kind of money at the moment, but thanks for the advise

That's not too bad!

Thanks for taking the time to look that up i appreciate that. It got broken into while parked underground and the thieves were actually trying to start it up. They broke a lot of interior parts and caused a lot of damage. At first insurance wrote it off and almost sold it to the auction almost instantly! I saved it just in the nick of time and fought for it to be repaired rather than salvaged! It sat at car stars body shop for a long time because that's who they chose to repair it, it was really hard to locate all the damaged parts.

Yes absolutely, a shop has (half assed) diagnosed the diff to be blown, but today we're going to pull it ourselves and double check. Thanks for the advise i appreciate it
