yesterday i had the day to myself and since i had fixed all the saftey related items i decided to do the remote door locks , at first i tried do tap into the wire harnes under the dash but this only does the three doors other than the drivers door , the junction for the drivers door is in it , so i pulled off the door skin and ran the wires into the door and voila , remote door locks , now that ive gotten this one done i figure i could bang off another in about two hours , so if any one wants it done i could help out !

i used the autolock kit from kms car parts about $70 , it has a five chanel output and i picked up two extra relays so i can wire in an ignition kill , and maybe power windows down ;) !

you could easily wire in a fuel cut off on a diesel engine !

Yah I did the full door lock kit on my 60 based on your first one you did. I got the 4 door alarm model. Then on my 80 I got the 5 channel on you just used. I wired mine to the drivers door control switch. Worked like a charm...

Except now I have to troubleshoot why it stopped working...

Oh and if you put the 4 channel alarm model into a diesel 60 do not activate the car jacking system. I opened the door to let it idle and it locked in car jacking mode. I had to pull the fuse and wait a month to get tech support as I was on the road in the states and was having issues with phone in support. Eventually they gave me the info when I got home.

Whats the difference, aside from the price, on the KMS door lock vs. a Clifford or other type car alarm with door locks etc?

side note, if you get an immobilizer of some kind you get a discount on your insurance. A regular alarm does not.

you have to get the imobilizer installed at an icbc approved shop and it has to be on thier list to get a discount, the way the imobilizer works is it sends a small electrical signal to a relay when it gets power say from you pushing a button on the remote to lock the doors the relay closes the circuit so your car wont start , you would do this by splicing into the starting circuit and using a relay in between , thuis power door lock kit has five channel out put so 1 chanel locks the doors 2nd channel unlocks the doors , you end up with 3 extra channels that you can use to operate various electrical components on the vehicle , it would take less than and hour to splice into the ignition relay and or an electric fuel pump / starter ect.

for me i will just tap into the starter circuit somwhere and install my relay , it would have to be towed to be stolen unless you were extremely clever !

to answer your question this unit does not have an alarm , most car security experts dont recomend car alarms , but they do recomend imobilizers , how many times have you heard a car alarm and gone to investigate ?

Not from my experience. The Tacoma we had and the currient Sienna both have them, and when we originally got the insurance we just told the ICBC agent they have immobilizers and that was enough.

they were probably factory :)

wifes x trail gets the discount ( factory ) , i will have to check with icbc , though i dont have theft on mine anyways .

Dealer installed options actually. When we bought the tacoma, it was booked in at the dealerships affiliate place (westcoast detailing) and installed there.
Regardless, we just told the adjuster and that was good enough. I'm not saying that is the way it's suppose to be, I'm just sayin'.....

I am very charming and good looking as well :)

I have an alarm with immobilizer.I wouldn't go without.Since installing it's gone off three time at night. You can't ignor the siren. Each time it has been someone trying to get what they can out of my truck but failed.

ya can you do power door lock on an early stile 40? LOL:D

Yes you can. Possibly 150 with alarm from KMS. Very easy for you to install. And a lot fun to have. Worth every penny. You would want a CA2000

BB, does the alarm draw 12V power? If so, how long does leaving it take to leave it without running before the batteries are drawn down too far?

Yah it is 12v. It is freakin minimal draw. But it is draw. I have 2300 CCA of power in my BJ60, so I expect 2-3 years before my batteries are dead :)

But honestly it should be fine for a month or two.

I just got a reply back from the detail/accessorie shop up the street from my house and its $299 installed (incl. parts and labour, taxes extra) for a keyless entry system with immobilizer and alarm for the 81.

If the parts only cost 69$ for a keyless entry system, immobilzer, and alarm, then yes $230 for labour. This isn't the KMS one, just whatever brand they sell, I didnt get that specific, was just curious.
