Having a hard time finding tow package info on this 08. It has the attached receiver built in to Bumper. From what I've found this doesn't attached to frame like a normal tube style hitch. Does it still have a 6500lb tow capacity?

I have a 06, it has a trans cooler but no hitch or wiring harness plug or mount. When I ran the vin on the Lexus site it listed the towing package installed. I added the integrated hitch because the lower profile. Been looking for the harness and mount. The lowest price I've found is $80 on ebay.

So if wanted to tow 6500 you'd have to get the tube style hitch installed?

Thanks for that link. Sounds like the tow prep package won't be a deal breaker if im able to get max tow capacity by investing in the aftermarket hitch. I'm purchasing the truck to be able to tow my 5500lb boat to and from storage at lake.

A trans cooler was standard on all years of the GX470. The towing package only adds factory wiring for a trailer brake controller under the dash and a factory 7 pin trailer connector. A hitch was not included with the towing package.

This is what it says on the Lexus website about my VIN:

TO Towing Prep Package Includes: Wiring Harness, Converter, Sub-Bracket, Rear Bumper Hitch Cover with Cutout (does not include ball mount) Factory

Is that not the hitch?

This is what I have and I thought it came from the factory that way:

The hitch would have been installed at the port or by the dealer for an additional charge as a dealer installed accessory. I had the same question when I bought my truck since the tow package was listed on the build sheet. The towing package includes a wiring harness runs within the car, the converter is to connect the wiring harness to a trailer brake controller under the dash, the 7pin trailer connector and a bracket to mount it under the back of the car until the hitch is installed, and a bumper cover allows a hitch to be installed without modifying it (there are 3 covers shapes that were made and not all fit the hitch). My truck has the towing package and I had to buy the hitch when I got it but everything else was there.

Do you know what date in 2008 the new drive shaft was upgraded?

Looks like you found it but its based on the VIN number and at some point the VINs above something all got the revised part

UPDATE:

I went and looked at the 2008 yesterday.

The good: newer tires, brakes, radiator, rear air bags. regular oil changes and trans flushes. No rust. No pealing of wheel paint. No leaks. Drives out nice and everything works as it should.

The bad: timing belt and water pump was due 10k miles ago. Front CV axle boots are toast. Both are completely torn. Good size scrape on front pass bumper (non buffable). Pass side running boards is in pretty bad shape, usable but looks like it was hit from underneath, maybe a curb or something. Second row slide out cup holder is broken. And then your normal wear on driver's seat and steering wheel from 200k miles of use. Seller is still firm at 8300.

I figure I'd be in it for another $1600 with tb/WP and axles. Is $8300 a reasonable price or should I move on with my search?

Everyone has a different threshold and there are several different markets in the US for these trucks. My suggestion would be to read through some other recent posts similar to yours and see what others are paying and what they are getting for what they paid in their area. I paid $8800 for 16Xk and my truck was pristine inside and out but had iffy maintenance and had replaced motor (used not rebuilt) due to overheating while towing.

Running boards are removable and mean nothing if you plan to replace with sliders in the future. CV's have a life expectancy and it sounds like your exceeded it ($150 from Toyota dealer) and only take an hour each to replace. Driver's seat is a tough one to fix or replace for me but not for others on this forum.

Sorry I am not able to give you an answer of Yes or No, but I hope to help give you perspective to use toward your decision.

Merry Christmas

For me the price sounds fair. It’s hard to find that deal in SoCal

As an off-road vehicle sounds like a good deal.

The water pump/timing belt kit was $170 and I found an Indy mechanic to install it for under $300 LA in 2017.
  • New Aisin water pump kit TKT-021 $170 includes:
  • OEM timing belt by Mitsuboshi
  • Aisin water pump
  • Aisin tensioner and pulley bearings
  • Gaskets
The boots are normal maintenance.

Would take the running boards out. Scrapes to the bumper don’t matter if you gonna wheel.

As a soccer mom vehicle, you will need to fix the seats, the cup holder, and the bumper.

So, maybe this 2008 is not as turn key as a soccer mom vehicle.

Pristine ones in so cal go for way more than what you want to pay and good deals take time to find.
