My first post here - I'm Sam, live in Brevard NC, from Georgia origionally, and get back to ATL frequently.
I'm in the market for a LC 100. Planning to leave it in colorado as an adventure vehicle to get to and from trailheads for summer hiking/mountain biking & winter backcountry skiing.
I've founda truck nearby that I'm going to look at. 2007, no AHC, 215k miles, will need a timing belt. No rust, solid interior.

I'm planning on getting it baselined when I do the timing belt soon after I purchase, if it all works out. I've submitted a form to ACC in Atlanta. Going to reach out to Trollhole too. Before I get too far down the rabbit hole, are there any cons to having a dealer baseline + do the timing belt, other than being more expensive? From what I've seen, my assumption is that a dealer may be able to fit it in more quickly.

Also - if anyone has leads to a solid mechanic that can do a PPI in the Charlotte/Mooresville area before I purchase, let me know!

Thanks,
Sam

I asked my local Lexus dealer to give me an estimate for a steering rack (and related parts) replacement for my 01 LX, (wife's car was in for oil service). Service manager told me he had no techs in the shop who had ever worked on one and it had been at least 15 years since he, himself, had worked on an LX470. He suggested I bring it elsewhere...

Make sure you ask a lot of questions before giving your LC to any shop, especially a dealer. These trucks are older than some of the technicians!

Seems to me that most dealers avoid working on older vehicles regardless of their know-how/experience. I don't really see anything unique with replacing a steering rack on one of these vehicles, seems pretty straightforward. The AHC suspension I can understand.

Do you have a budget in mind? I'm considering parting with my 100 series. Trollholes is pretty familiar with it, and I've spared no expense on it, both mechanically and on upgrading it.
