Pipe dope? That sounds illegal :D!!

I think the most expensive part is going to be the flue for it. You should check on prices for that double wall pipe.

I have been looking at a garage heater also, but I have decided to go electric. Your garage is rather large for electric, so you are probably stuck with gas.

There is a flue kit for it and I got it ordered also, I also have a thermostat coming for it, the garage walls are not finished so it should be easy to install...gona need to hook up power to it for the fan to blow and get gas to it.

They have a 45,000 BTUs unit for 1 to 2 car garages...people seam to really like these heaters.

Infrared heater

Mine didn't require a flue, but I made sure to get fresh air. The downside is it put moisture into the air. Sorry you cant' see it, that was two houses ago.

Similar to this:

Nice - I'm thinking about getting rid of the old army stove out in my shop and putting in a propane tank and something like this. Would free up a ton of room and probably be a lot safer as well.

You can get these in two flavors...propane or natural gas...so if you get a large propane tank..you should be in business.

From the reviews I read, they say it will get a garage up to temp within 5 to 7 minutes...I have to test that out...I got about 700 sq ft, lets see.

I opted for natural gas, because the pipe coming into the house comes in through the garage so it's easy to get it hooked up (I think).

I have natural gas to the house, but it would cost a fortune to have a line run to the outside garage. Of course, one of those big tanks probably costs a fortune also. Haven't looked into it seriously yet. :meh:

That speed thing is another big factor - takes forever for that wood stove to bring it up to a reasonable temperature. And it can't hold it there over night. I do woodworking out there, so the ability to keep things above freezing while glue or finishes dry is helpful.
