A trip is planned for a day run with option for camping 8/22-23 , the following link is the proposed Trail details. onX Offroad - https://webmap.onxmaps.com/offroad/map/query/33.7626151,-116.7441713,15/overview. We may also run this Trail?onX Offroad - https://webmap.onxmaps.com/offroad/map/query/33.7631569,-116.8229982,15/overview . The scheduled Rally Point is Mountain Center Google Maps - https://maps.app.goo.gl/EeCuhKZupzaNKKUx5?g_st=ac
Rally time TBD. This Trail is suitable for all vehicle platforms. There are a few yellow post site locations along the trail run with adjacent running creek and shade. Sites are first come first served., fire restrictions will be in force . Actual camping location may vary dependent on availability of yellow post sites. There will be an option to run Indian Truck Trail for those interested. This Trail is more advanced and Technical . And will require your vehicle to be properly equipped. This schedule is subject to change , trail conditions & weather. Weather should be on the warmer side. You can respond here or directly to my number below if interested.

As noted in the original post, Marc is meeting up with the group at Mountain Center (point A) on the map. I presume off pavement fun will begin where 5S09 starts (point B). Marc and I discussed Indian Mountain Trail (4S21) as a possibility. Since I'm coming from the north, driving south bound on CA 243, I will get off pavement, enter 4S21 at the North end (point C) and meet up with everyone where the two trails intersect (point D).

The Indian Mountain Trail has a high difficulty rating, 7/10 per OnX. I have not been on it for quite some years and will think twice about running it alone. But menancyandsam has expressed interest in joining me (mostly to keep me out of trouble!) so there is a high probability that this will be an alternative entry point. I will have more discussions with Marc who is leading the run on further details.

Drop a post here if you are considering this alternative. The rigs that menancyandsam and I drive are adequately equipped for the trail with multiple (front, rear, and sides) recovery points and armor. I would ask that your rig should minimally have front and rear recovery points and no running board or side steps. Bring a tow rope if you got one. Per usual, chance of body damage will increase with trail difficulty.

Currently planning to camp, exact camping location TBD. Dependent on availability of yellow post sites on the trail. And or another location

@oc cruiser 97 I’m interested, but would have a kid with me (prob my 8yo boy) and am not interested in anything too technical. I could be in if it’s a family friendly event. No Indian Mountain Trail for me…

I’m 50/50, definitely interested. Depends on my attendance at car week/rolex Historics the week before. Will know more in a day or two.

Yes family friendly, majority of club trips are. Don't have to worry about Indian Mountain Trail. We will be running moderate Trail routes, Indian Mountain Trail is an option for those who expressed interest.

Copy that, thanks for confirming, I am interested in joining. I usually camp at Boulder Basin, nearby. I've long wanted to check out the routes and areas you're suggesting.

This is the Google Maps pin location of the yellow post campsite area. If these sites are already occupied we will search for another suitable Camp location.

Looks great, thanks. I’m in for camping overnight.

PS for anybody interested, I subscribe to a newsletter about climatic and trail conditions in the Idyllwild area. It’s usually packed with useful info:

I've penciled this into my calendar including camping overnight. Will bring my 13 yr old son along.

I've done the Indian Mountain Trail and my muffler tip remembers it well. :)

Depending on how weather works out that weekend, higher elevations along Boulder Basin might not be a bad idea. I'm flexible and will roll wherever y'all decide.

Excellent! Looking forward to catching up and meeting your son. Still undetermined on my end but probably will have my 8yo son, my younger brother and his gf, all riding with me.
