My distributor was locked - no advance, Truck ran ok but was a little 'doggy'. I rebuilt the distributor so that it now has both the mechanical and the vacuum advance. But now anything over about 2100 RPMs produces backfires and no power. Timing triple checked at 7 BDC. Any ideas?

Yes...where are you getting the vacuum from for the dizzy?
 
what is the guessed total advacnce with mech and vac all in? You positive you got a working advance can and not a retard can?
