I decided to up the ante a little bit today yestrday and did the San Gabriel Mountains Icehouse Canyon to the Three Tee's Trail today. The route takes you through beautiful Icehouse Canyon up to Icehouse Saddle and over to Timber Peak, Telegraph Peak and then Thunder Peak (hence the Three Tee's moniker) and back. It's a 16 mile hike with 5800 ft. of total elevation gain out and back. The weather was great: Cool to warm and breezy, a little clearer would have been nice but all and all it was beautiful day. The hike took a little over 7.5 hours. This has got to be one of the most beautiful hikes in Southern California. There is a ton of water running in the river, massive trees, sketchy ultra narrow switchbacks, leg scratching Manzinita filled meadows and best of all spectacular views at the top of each peak, especially Telegraph Peak.

Geez, it must be nice to have all that time to hike you do...jealous!

What's up with the metal box?

Somebody went to a lot of effort to build a beautiful stainless steel box with heavy duty stainless chain and attached it to the rock with a stainless shackle and bolts. It's use is to simply keep small memo pads or ledgers and pens safe from the elements so people can record their personal notes about the summit. Sort of like the box on the Mojave Trail.

I have had a few days off this week and made good use of the time. I normally work 10 -14 hour days and only hike weekends. I wish I could do this every week, someday....

You've become a hiking machine Scott! Nice!

Thanks Brent. Ever since I rolled the rig 4 years ago and got hurt I've gotten fatter and felt worse every day. Ollie from OAUSA got me out hiking a few months ago, it rekindled a new spirit and it's become an addiction. It's a great feeling making it to top of these local mountain tops as you well know. Looking forward to our Whale Peak hike next month. :)

Thanks for the tip on that hike, it looks brutal! 5,744' elevation gain in 6.2 miles. Almost a 1,000 ft. a mile, that is just tough anyway you look at it. That is almost equivalent to the Baldy Bowl trail which gains 3,904' in 4.1 miles and that one made me hurt. Another Baldy hike I have my eye on is coming up from the backside accessing the Fish Fork Trail from the 3N39 then east to Dawson Peak and south to San Antonio (Mt. Baldy) It's only a 3420' elevation gain but it's also 20.6 miles round trip. That's a full day hike. Let me know of any others you recommend, I appreciate it.

I plan on doing some winter trips for sure and CTC is on the agenda. I joined the San Jacinto hiking club so I' hope to cover lots of new to me trails with more experienced hikers. Thanks again for the tips. .
