so the story goes........
back in 99 i get a phone call: "hi, my name is andy, a friend told me you could do a ps conversion on my cruiser".
a few days later he stops by with his cruiser. i take one look at it and tell him "sorry, i don't really want to work on that rig". he looks at me perplexed. so i ask "how much did that paint job cost you?". he tells me "a little over $10k".
so i proceed to explain to him that a sag ps conversion involves some cutting, grinding and welding very close to the bib and that i'd be really bummed out if i scratched or damaged his beautiful paint job in any way. he re-afirms me that as long as i try to be careful that's all he can ask for. eventually i agree to the ps swap.
then in the summer of 2000 he calls me again saying he wants me to do a 350TBI and th700 conversion along with a couple of other things. i agreed again. i was happy with how it turned out and drove, so was he. been friends eversince. he never really wheeled it but he's brought it to the "fj45 run" and our swap meet a few times. plenty of street driving and been very reliable.
fast forward to two weeks ago. i got home, my x-mas present to myself ( flat screen tv, nothing fancy ) was sitting on my porch waiting for me. so i grab it, get it set up in my bedroom, kick my feet up and start watching a little "thrillbillies". feeling good, got something i wanted for x-mas, stuff's getting done at the shop, house isn't a disaster area,.......
not 5 minutes later i get a txt from andy "hey, i wanna sell the cruiser, thinking about getting a hot rod again". so i call him. he tells me how much he's looking for. then he tells me that if i want it i can have it for $x. i say let me think about it. 5 minutes later i txt him "i'll take it. dangit!"
to help pay for it i post my dd 60 in the classifieds on here at about 10pm. i get up the next morning and check my emails. come to find out i already have somebody interested and before the end of the day i have a deposit in my pp account. the 60 is going to TX. sweet.
fast forward to yesterday, i picked up the cruiser. brought garrett and his child-seat with me and we drove it home. sweet little ride, plenty of power and basically needs nothing. gonna be my DD and i hope i keep it for a while. but then again, charles already laid claim to it so when i find something else i can't live without it'll be going to TX as well.
