I am chasing wiring problems on a 1988 1-ton mini truck with a 22RE. I installed a new engine and now I am repairing the 5 previous mechanics "electrical engineering."

I have the wiring diagram but I could use a little assistance with a visual. I need a picture of the fuse box area by the drivers left foot.

I found one of the two round relays was missing. I installed the correct one.

The fuses were all 20amp. I installed the correct amp fuses.

The flasher relay was missing. I installed one but now the battery drains after about a two hours. The flashers blink really fast like a bulb is out. It does have LED's for tail lights.

I just pulled the new flasher relay and noticed it has started to melt.

The horn does not work as well.

I have two or three factory wire connectors that I do not know where they go.

Can some one please take thier cover off and post a picture of what they have?

Here is what I have.

My camera is at work and there is no one there:frown:
Of all the weeks to leave it there.
I can take some pictures tomorrow and post up.
The LEDs may not be hooked up right? Try using OEM stuff and see what happens.
Merry Christmas

I don't know what I'm missing and the FSM doesn't really tell me.

Toyota is known for using the same wire harness in many models, option package trucks, so having "extra" pig tails, relay locations is normal. Also unless the truck your getting pictures from is the same model/option package as your's, chances are good that it will have more/less relays/connections than yours.

1988 Toyota 1-Ton 2wd with a manual Transmisison and a 22RE engine.

I doubt if anybody wheels one of these since they have about 3" of gound clearance.

I can give you a picture, but it doesn't include the truck. :frown:

The harness for my '86 22RET has the same pink and purple wires.

I couldn't find them on my wiring diagram, either. But I found this plug with pink and purple wires.

It's on the branch close to the EFI ECU. In the following picture, the two ECU plugs are black at the 6:00 position (just below the gauges in the picture). The harness with the pink and purple wires is located at 5:00.

I double-checked with a multimeter, and they're the same wires. Sorry, I can't tell you what they go to. But maybe this will help you track them down.

Yes, the pink and purple wires are for the speaker. I recognize the connector. It's likely it won't show up in the regular wiring diagram, but it will be in the Electrical section for the audio system. Or, if you have the special seperate wiring manual, it will be in there. I have one for an '88.

I have a 1988 22re. SR5. Manual trans. Pink/purple wire is to LF speaker, x3.
Not sure about the other connector. Here are some pics to help you I hope. The orange box is the cruise control computer.

I have confirmed the problems.

The key in the ignition switch is so worn you can pull it out at any setting. The 87y/o person who owns this truck was leaving it accessory mode and pulling the key out. That caused the slow battery leak.

He can't get it started sometimes because he forgets to puch the clutch in.

The fast battery leak was caused by a bare wire coming from the battery to the added on electric brake controller. It was bare and trying to gound itself out under the floor mat. It would be in the area of the toes on the passenger left foot.

All the "extra" wiring has been removed as well as the brake controller.

Thanks for all your help! I do appreciate it.

Back from the dead...I didn't want to start a new thread. ;p

I stripped my '86 22RTE harness down to the wires that I need. There are two plugs left, and I don't know what they go to. I think the 3-wire plug is for the rear heater relay? Can anyone confirm? The large white wire comes from the 80amp fusible link.

The six wire plug, I'm not sure about. The green wire goes to a spade connector on the passenger side, close to the injector resistor. The blue wire goes to the engine harness and I lose track of it. Any ideas? Emissions computer?

I'm guessing these connectors would be located in the center console, but I have no way of confirming.

Edit: Possibly air conditioning?
