So, right after saying how much I like my Superwinch... I've gotta eat a little crow. Its having some .... issues.

After sitting in the tropical dust/rain here without any use for about three years, it seems to have gotten gummed up. I took it apart last night and the grease inside seems pretty well pooched- very waxy and not very greasy anymore. One of the inner gears on the planetary mechanism is binding. I'll finish disassembly tonight, I imagine, but need some advice on what grease to use to reassemble... the superwinch manual says "only Superwinch grease". Yeah. Thanks, guys. If they had an outlet in Costa Rica I would buy their grease, but paying international air frieght for a tube of grease seems silly.

Anyone know what kind of grease I should use? I'm email Superwinch too, will post their response.

Still like the winch, but have to admit that it has failed me (after pretty bad abuse/neglect).

well, to Superwinch's credit, they got right back to me:

So, um, what's a "decent gear grease"? and sorry for the hijack.
