I drained my oil after a year and got 5 gallons of liquid out.

Hello all,

I haven't driven my 75 fj40 in over a year and it sits outside in Connecticut. I drained the oil today and for good measure I figured why not just use a home depot bucket because it could go everywhere and my oil pan was small. Low and behold, all i see is clear liquid and I'm like okay, some water, and then it was just a waterfall, oil at the end.

I was scared so I opened my radiator and its full! So what do I do now?

Is this literally just water inside (mind you the last time I drove it i didn't check the oil, and I had like no power and it was smokey.

I'm pretty sure the correct answer is remove the head, but I just want to know if I should just add new oil and see if it turns over.

Marvel oil into the cylinders, turn it a few times, fresh oil and filter, run the piss out of it. If you have damage, it will show, if not, you are good.
It's a tractor engine. Oh, find a dry place to park it. Try to figure out how water got down the carb.

My 72 with a giant rear heater holds about 4 gallons of coolant. Oil capacity is about 8 quarts. Maybe your fuel pump is leaking - I would think that oil would stink like gas badly.

I will attempt this with a bit of flushing but it might be fuel.

You know it smelt sweet as hell when it came out. And I love the smell of gas. I was so worried it was coolant.

Oh I think you’re right because nothing is milky at all.

Will fuel leak only at the fuel pump?

Oil is drained - put on a new oil filter, add oil. Disconnect the fuel line to fuel pump or clamp it off. Remove the spark plugs, inspect them- use starter to turn engine over until you build oil pressure - might take a while, several cranking sessions.

Put in spark plugs. Pour some gas in the carb - see if it will start.

Get a new fuel pump or rebuild the one you have. You could add in a electric fuel pump for carbs and bypass your fuel pump. I'm very fond of the $10 diode ones from Amoron or eboy. They look like the one in my fuel transfer pump, the older ones were like a 2" cube.
