I'm riding an mid 90's GF HooKooEKoo and just blew out my rear tire. It was a semi-slick Of unknown brand at this point (side disintegrated and left only the cords showing). I had no real complaints about the tires other than washing out a couple of times while speeding around corners on the street.

90% of my riding is on the street, but some Moab style slickrock is by no way out of the question.

I bought my son a Marin last April that came with some 26x2.4" meats on it and they look great. So, now that I need new tires for my bike, I'm looking at options. I've basically got it narrowed down to two completely different tires.
The semi-slick is probably the better choice considering my riding habits

But the testosterone in me wants the Kenda ElMoco in the fatter, sticky variant

Yeah, I want the bigger tire mostly cause it looks cool. I'm petty like that.

Question is, will I be happy with that decision or will I be overly disappointed? Will it really be THAT much harder to pedal my bike around with the big meats compared to the semi-slicks?

Or is there a tire out there that I should be considering?

Those look like a BMX tire :D

Yeah but just a little... !!!

Now you have me searching for the pic of the guy with super swamper tires on a custom bike...

Way better in sand.

I bet his granny ring is worn more than the others.

Nah, he's hipster cool with a single speed..

:D

Thought I saw a PBR in his European shoulder bag.

Take a look at Hybrid tires I think I have the Bontrager H5's on my Trek. Low rolling resistance on the street but the side wall lugs work well on dirt. Works well for me because I do a lot of bike paths with a few dirt short cuts mixed in.

I really was a fan of the larger side lugs on the existing tires I have. Those Bontrager look a lot more like slicks than a midpoint tire. Although, for Moab, Any tire that is made out of rubber works great :D

Back to the original topic......
I just had new Maxxis Holy Roller tires put on my old Giant mb. The size is 26x2.2 and they seem to ride great. So far I only have 1 mile on them, but I am doing a long ride tomorrow and I will give an update. If you check the reviews, you will be blown away at how happy people are with these tires.

I also have an old Fuji mb that stays at the shore house, and is relegated to road use. I got cheap Kenda K838 tires on Amazon, and I am also very happy with those as well.

Ended up with the ElMoco by Kenda in the stick-e version. So far, i like them!
