The thing is... I know my way around a SBC alot more than I do these damned 2F thingy's. And besides that, if I ever break I can buy parts at Circle K and Walmart. Man I've never seen so many friggin vacume lines and switches and s*** in my entire life. Let alone the fact that ain't one of them hooked up. And the 350 swap I wouldn't be afraid to tackle myself bein as how the 40's already got one pushin her along.

Those vacuum lines become less intimidating and more familiar after you
replace them all once. Ask me how I know.
If you know your way around an SBC, the 2F ain't that much different.
Both are pushrod motors. The 2F was originally a Chevy design.
Parts might be a bit more pricey, but they're still available from various
sources.

I'm not Knockin the 2f... hell I may still put another one in, but it'd sure be nice to have that small block power in there. I don't want to have a matching plate to Lee's.

I have the 81 2F Fed Emissions manual...

I can scan and post the hose diagrams. Do you think the only problem is disconnected hoses? Or, are you actually missing components? If it's all there, I'd seriously consider keeping the 2F and getting the smog stuff all connected. It's not that bad.

I'll second Suoer's recommendation.
Made a huge difference in how mine run.
Actually, it made a huge difference in whether mine runs.

Unfortunately A few disconected hoses would be a welcome problem to have. The current 2f is oil fouling #5 on startup and #4 after a short run time. With 260k miles on the ticker a top end wouldn't be prudent. This sucker needs a complete rebuild. I've looked at them spaghetti bowl diagrams for the vaccume system and half the chit on there ain't in my engine compartment. Not looking forwrd to that daunting task alone. Even after a rebuild what kind of gas mileage would I be expecting...14-16 if I was the luckiest 2f driver in the world. Not to mention after all that she wouldn't be able to get out of her own way. It's pretty much a done deal... SBC FOR ME! I'll take the 12mpg I get with my 350 in the 40 and have plenty of guts to go with it. Not to mention the previously stated fact that I'll be able to get my parts at any Circle K in town.

Put a diesel in it!

13BT
12HT
1HZ
1HDT

You'll get 25mpg and the damn thing will last forever!
