missed your post ozcruiser i dont get over to the 70 page much. in fact your post threw me a bit; was searching for this old thread back in the january listings haha. not much of an expert on later model stuff; not even that fluent in the different model names. we had a 2004 factory turbo 6 we bought new which was very fine motorcar; sought after and hard to find in my parts. its only issue in about 250000k is was a cracked rear diff housing which we welded up. this earlier variant (naturally aspirated 2000 model, first of the 5 studs, first extended cab) however is much despised around here. gutless and thirsty with this short liked notoriously bad gearbox. anyway im back to the front diff problem; still havent found a replacement and paying real prices for a recon one s***s me for this old ex miner pos. perhaps my existing one is rebuildable but i doubt it; sounds very ugly. contemplating fitting the 80 diffs as described by locked79 in post #11 above. may be a few weeks before i get onto this but will post my findings.

so think ive got this right. need to fit both diffs to keep ratio right. front should be a bolt in. driveshaft length? rear need to run the 79 side gears in the 80 centre and machine the carrier housing to facilitate fitting the 79 axles?

Thanks mate was about to pull the trigger on a 2000 hzj79 with the lot but decided to wait a bit longer. Do you have any of the new v8 70's on the station for a comparison.

Hi, how near is the low gear stick to the handbrake location in L4? And is the speedo accurate? Thank you.

Wong, my transfer box rear output shaft had broken. I thought the common problem of r151f is input shaft. A friend of mine had h150 in 75, L4 is very close to the handbrake and the speedo is bouncing all the time (maybe due to different sender between h55f and h150). I wonder how does it goes in 79.

I am quite surprised to note the r151f gearbox in hz, I had assumed they all be the big brother h55f.

You need some minor mod for a H150 box to slot in 79 and not knocking the handbrake.
Bouncing of the speedo in 75 is because of the cable is old enough to replace whereas 79 is an electric type speedo.

hzj78,79,105 comes with r151f while hzj80 comes with h150f

I think oxy the transfer gear shifter will be the best way to solve it.
