Yikes! That one is pretty bad 😮

I'm assuming you have long-spline input gear going back in?

Yes that was my solution, a Terrain Tamer one.

Note for future players:
The Terrain Tamer transfer rebuild kit has all you would expect APART FROM the flimsy little plastic clip 5th gear oil tube, and the 5th gear linkage rubber boot. Which I think is pretty poor. They give you a gasket for both sides of the split case adapter housing, so they realise you're going that deep, yet they leave those parts out.

So you are going with the PTO delete gear and are able to use the good part of the output from the transmission? Just did mine on my FJ73 and had absolutely no wear on the transmission output shaft. I always thought the gear was a lesser grade of metal, being the sacrificial part.

Remember the 5th gear oiler when you reassemble! I know you are aware of it in the comment, I was so paranoid that i was going to forget!!!!

Yes that's what I did.

I don't know about different grades. A story I was told years ago by a Toyota dealer was there was a bad run of shafts in the 90's at some point, that tended to wear the splines more than they should.

Yes I remembered it. I do wonder how much such a flimsy little thing actually does anyway? But I made sure I got one just in case. The original one was brittle and broke when I tried to remove it to clean up, hence my annoyance that the rebuild kit didn't have one.
