These would be my perfect tire in 9.00 x 16. I ran 11.00 x 16 XLs on my FZJ80 and loved them.

Sidewall information:
Michelin XZL 9.00 R16 Radial
J134 Tubeless
Max Load Single - 3750 lbs at 65psi. cold
Tread - 4 steel plies
Sidewall - 1 steel ply

Denman Coyotes are tall and skinny, but the tread pattern isn't all that aggressive.

my nylon tires(bridgestone jeep service) are good for offroad but no good for the highway. they also go square when sitting overnight. i was told they are not a good candidate for balancing, period!

AC is a dealer fit option on 70 series cruisers. Even the new ones still!

Are you sure about this? All of these 79 bodies we got had AC and they went straight from the Toyota factory to the company that we get the bodies from. They did not pass through a dealers hands at all. It may be different for GCC trucks than Aussie trucks.

MSGGrunt: Looking good man! Keep up the good work and let us know if you need anything.

It's more of a east Aussie thing , in WA if/when you buy a new cruiser they don't ask if you want a/c you just get it but the price is $2g extra than one from east aus ,

I like the Yokohama M/T+. Some sizes are on the thinner side, but not super skinny. Sorry if I missed it, but what size wheels do you plan to run?

37/12.5R17 on my Tundra. Tread measures 9.8" wide. Feel free to post it if you want, but I don't want to clutter up your 70 series post with Tundra pictures.

Toyo has a 285/75/17 and 18 so 34 and 35 by 11.

I am running the 285/75/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers and love them but going to move to the Toyo MT soon.

Not as tall as 36 but a great tire.

bjowett I'll post just because that is one nice looking truck. Nice tires

updates?

Any updates?

Look forward to seeing your work. I'd keep the auto....

Keeping the auto would be easier, but I bought the 62 not running and will try to get the truck running so I can determine if the auto is in good shape. The benefit of the 4-speed would be less parasitic draw from the auto and more perceived power. The draw back would be having to source a 4-speed pedal bucket, the cost of conversion parts, and converting things like the neutral safety switch, etc.

The other thing that I am still considering, if it is possible, is using 97 FZJ80 axles under it. Welding on leaf spring pads and keeping the truck sprung under. I know the 80 series axles are a bit wider by 5" I believe, so 2.5" each side, but would like to use them as they have low miles, 4.88 gears (good for the 35" tires I want to run), all new brake rotors and calipers, and an Aussie Locker in the rear. Not sure about steering linkage clearances without going to a high steer conversion and I have read on the 60's board that the leaf spring perch would have to be very close to the pumpkin housing. Not only that, but the tires may get into the leaves even if it could be done.

Time will tell.

Sweet build! I'm already learning stuff from your thread to apply to my own build,

The 3FE/A440F combination is an excellent one off road, there is no smoother way to apply torque to rubber and dirt, and that's an excellent overbuilt tranny that will last forever if taken care of (don't let it overheat).

However, having said that, putting a manual transmission behind a 3FE really wakes it up, I've driven two FJ62s on the same day with the auto vs. H55F and the stick shift truck was like driving a sports car in comparison. I would totally go stick if it was me, but with an H55F ($$$ of course, you can always do it later, having done most of the conversion work now).

, this is going to be fun!

have you tried the FJ62 visors for fit?

subscirbed...getting ready to grab one of these from proffits also.

I have most of the parts laying around to do this swap...hardest part it finding the dash and misc under dash pieces or bending over and paying what the few sources out there want for the parts.

mine will most likely be on and 80 frame with a diesel/5spd combo and factory lockers.

sent you a pm about dash stuff...

Hulsty,

Not sure where you got your information from but it is not correct, all of the 7x series these days have A/C from factory not dealer, Positive 100%

Perhaps somewhere there was one without and a dealer added it. But come from Factory with A/C if they are equiped.

Cheers,

Michael

Once my Bull bar get to the states and I install it on my 76 series I will probably have a factory front bumper for sale.

Also I will be stocking Factory new take off OEM snorkels for newer 76 and 79 series soon as well.

Oh, almost forgot will also have front bonnet protectors for new Series front clips.

Just letting all you new 79 series owner know :)

Cheers,

Michael

Good information to know. I too will be getting rid of the factory bumper and running an ARB.

How much are those bodies? I couldn't do the build now but I'd like to get one for the future. Best of luck with your build.
