Stopped to get gas driving home from a road trip today and when I restarted I got a check engine light and the steering wheel light. When I tried to shift to drive it gave me a hybrid system not ready error. I power cycled a couple times then eventually opened and closed the fuel door with a power cycle and it worked again. Anyone seen this?

So far, it happened twice that they hybrid system is not engaging and i thought the backup starter should kick in and the car just relies on ICE

I’m equally baffled by it. Why isn’t the redundant system taking over as intended.

I experienced it one time in 14 months ownership. Open the hood to check, no obvious issue closed the hood. It started on next try.

When I had my hybrid Highlander, it threw this error when the vehicle 12V battery was low or failing.

Happened to me twice also after getting gas. I’m not 100% sure but I might have just turned the car off without putting it in park and maybe that’s why it happened? Took me a couple of cycles to get the 700h to start the first time and the second time after 1 cycle. Hasn’t happened again though.

Happened to me twice while refueling about a year or so ago. Getting out, locking the truck, and waiting about 30seconds before getting back in resolved it for me.

Hasn't happened since though.

Happened to me once while getting gas. Tried to start the car and it said "hybrid not ready". Turned off, opened the door and locked. Then it worked perfect. Obviously this is a software bug that Toyota should fix. I'm surprised this has happened to so many people on this thread.

Interesting that it happens while getting gas. I haven't gotten that error yet (knock on wood) but several times it happened to me is when the fuel door doesn't pop out and i would have to press the button again. Sometimes waiting 30 sec befofe pressing, then it'll pop out. I chucked it to sticky actuator.

Getting near 9kmiles and mine has worked flawless at every fill up. Agree it might be a software glitch or the gas access actuator acting up (pun intended).

It may be venting the tank, that's why the hybrids use an actuated gas door.

Not a case in the LX, but if the ICE runs infrequently then pressure can build up in the tank. So there can be a purging process before the door pops open.
