Looking at my hubs, they appear to be manual locking hubs.

However, there are 2 buttons on the dash that indicate non-manual.

I left the hubs unlocked and tried a small obstacle in 2 wheel drive. I pushed both buttons and was able to get further up the obstacle but I'm still not sure if they really locked the hubs. It felt more like the LSD kicked in. Here are some pictures:

Looking at the hubs, they do not show free and locked. Do I need to turn the dial to 4x4 and push both dash buttons to be in 4 wheel drive?

Sorry for such a newbie question. My other vehicles are more straight forward.

Thanks

Looks like your vehicle was originally fitted with electric hubs a.k.a. power hubs. They have some electric motors inside that unfortunately are not built to last. Your actual hub locks are aftermarket products. For sure you cannot activate them from your dash switch
On your hubs, you have 2 positions, 4X2 which means "free" and 4X4 which means "locked"
So, when you want to engage 4X4, you have to press both switches, the "hub-lock" and the "H4", otherwise your transfer case will not engage. And yes, turn the hub to 4X4

Thanks. That is what I thought but not having a lot of experience with the 70 series, I was not sure.
