Welcome:flipoff2:. Nice looking Cruiser-'69 is a great year. Good luck with your project, and x2 on the money, it is much better if you don't keep track..

My suggestions....

Borrow my bender and shop and build a cage.

Bring the motor over and I will help you fix / rebuild it. Free labor - it might be worth more than you pay for it.

We can fix the trans. If it shifts ok - we can throw new seals in it for cheap.

Tcase - I would love to hear what other opinions there are. An Atlas might not be a bad option since you don't want to do an adapter. I think it might fit in your budget to buy an adapter and put a Dana 300 in it.

It's fixable, and worth it.

More than generous offers, I'm just not sure if I can stand to be around you now that you don't smoke and drink anymore...:flipoff2: I'm a reasonably intelligent guy, not sure why the whole motor thing intimidates me so.

IIRC, the axles have 4.10's, with the auto those ought to be nice on road gears with 35s...it would be nice to have a decent low range in the transfer case, maybe 3.8:1 or 4.3:1? Atlas solves that problem, but does an adapter, 300 +4:1 kit still make more sense?

Are you going to be at the meeting tonight? Going to try real hard to make it... may happen, may not.

Personally, I would just get an Atlas and replace the upside down tcase and be done. Go 4.3 or 5:1. No reason for any less in my book. I am fine with my 4.3:1 (but I would have gone lower if I had bought it) - but since you usually only use low range offroad, I would recommend one in one of the lower ratios unless you plan higher speed low range use - like maybe sand or mud. )

I work a block from the meeting place and still can't stay in town long enough to get to make a meeting. :(

I'm leaning the Atlas direction. The only other 'good' option appears to be a 300, but by the time it's adapted, and stuffed with a decent low-range gear-set it's darn near as expensive... Even a Stak replace-a-case 300 is spendy, and then it needs an adapter...
