How to Unlock Rear Tailgate to Open - Magic?

OK --- Pig has been sitting awhile --- while son does front axle seals and brakes.

I can not get the rear tailgate handle to open after retracting rear window inside of tailgate. Tailgate window switch works on dash... a little intermittent... but works.

Key for rear lock operates the window but does not unlock the tailgate locking mechanism so pulling on handle does not open the tailgate. Is there a locking mechanism? I can not remember. Old age. Is my tailgate release handle stuck. I have tried the key that unlocks the front door but was not successful using that key either in the tailgate lock.

Any clues? Window is down inside the tailgate since you can't open the tailgate with the window up.

The key only runs the motor to lower and raises the window. When the window comes down it hits a small lever that moves and allows the handle to disengage the stops on each side of the tail gate. You might have to work from inside the wagon with the window up. so you can get to the small lever (arm).

Hope that helps you. As you can see the lever is attached to another lever via that rod. You might have to hook that rod back up for it to work.
