How to remove headliner and install aftermarket roofrack in 2016+ LX570

I only took down the rear end and sides. I was able to reach all bolts for the railing with the way it is in the photo.

Removing the front was going to be a lot more involved due to all the cables etc. Decided not to remove it.

If you decide to put additional rear back up camera (because rear mounted spare tires block view), then you can preemptively also install a cable while you have the headliner down. Any other cables for that matter.

Hope this helps.
Oh so the brackets are not needed in the front then and all 8 brackets are accessible based on what you took down in the pic?

All 8 brackets go on the side of the roof only.
The holes on the roof are all accessible by taking down the headliner to the extent as shown.

Here is the final result with the Prinsu Roof rack and Roofnest Falcon.

Fantastic detail and write up! Thank you for sharing!!! I have a '17 cruiser I will be adding Dynomat to the roof as well as running wires the way Eric S with Ed Martin suggests for future lighting projects. This is what I have been looking for. We appreciate you taking the time to document your progress and sharing with the community.

Thank you for directions and what a god damn pain lol

Thanks for this writeup. The amount of detail in this post worked great (with a few minor deviations) for removing the headliner in my 2010. I was having trouble with the roof rack bolts to install an after market rack, and it turns out the previous owner decided to just glue random bolts to the underside of the roof instead of replacing the damaged factory roof rack parts. Again, thanks for the detailed photos.

Excellent write up. Just did this project this past weekend on my wife's LX570.

A couple of notes:

If you have third row seats, you will need to remove them in order to get the rear panels off so that you can remove C and D pillars. Also there is not a hidden bolt if you have the third row seats.

Also if you order the Prinsu rack for 2016+ they will send you rivet nuts, I think the factory brackets are superior. You will need to source the hardware or ask Prinus to send it to you to mount the rack to factory brackets. The correct size and hardware is M8 1.25 x 50 or 55mm will work (stainless).

I used this trim removal kit and it had everything I need to get the job done:
Amazon product ASIN B07PZ6H16Y
Overall, it is quite a project and time consuming, but worth it IMO.

I have been meaning to write this for the past year.
As we all know, 2016+ LX570 has a roof rail system that can only be removed by removing the headliner. If you want to install an aftermarket roofrack such as Prinsu roof rack, there is no other way but to remove the headliner and remove the aluminum rail.
I will do my best to walk through this as best I can. I do apologize in advance if somethings are not clear.
Just to warn you that if you are doing this for the first time, it will take you a long time. It took me 8 hours to remove the headliner the first time as I was trying to figure things out and trying not to damage anything. Now I think I can do it in 2 hours or less.

This is also a great time to run some wiring over the roofliner if you are thinking of installing additional video cameras, power line, etc.

DISCLAIMER: Attempt this at your own risk. This is only a guidance and I will not take any responsibility if you break something while you attempt to do this.

Parts that I recommend you to get.
1. White and blue panel clips. You will likely break or drop these while removing panels. So have extras ready just in case you are not stuck while putting panels back together.
2. Roofrack mounting bracket x 8. Genuine Toyota BRACKET, 63187-60040. (please confirm this part number at toyota dealer, dont go to Lexus dealer)
3. Clear silicon
4. flat and phillips screw drivers
5. Butter knife (Helps to remove screw covers)
6. Trim removal kit
7. Socket wrench
8. Ratchet wrench, tiny wrench, adjustable wrench
9. Good lighting.
10. Beer and music

Step A: Disconnect battery.
Remove the overhead lights and control panel by removing 2 screws hidden under the cover at the sunglass storage. Then pull on them and disconnect all wiring.

Awesome write up. why did you mention to check with toyota dealer and not go to lexus dealer for bracket part. I checked the same part number is available from lexus dealer in my area for cheaper than toyota dealer.

At the time, Lexus part was far expensive. May be things are different now. If you can get the part cheaper through Lexus now then you should get it through them.

Also the dealer I went were always being a PIA by asking me VIN number and trying to find corresponding parts. Since 2016+ LX do not use this bracket, the part appears not be compatible so they gave me a hard time.

I just went to toyota dealer and ordered parts through them by telling them the part number. They also were hesitant to order because my VIN number was for Lexus and they were worried it would not fit. I had to reassure them that I would not request a refund if it did not fit in the LX570.

Getting 8 of them was also a pain since distributin warehouses did not stock in high numbers so they had to order from 3 different places. May be things have changed now.

I manage to tear the headliner of my LX570 while transporting 2x4s and am having an upholstery guy fix it over the weekend.

He is a professional and very well reviewed, but given the complexity of removing the headliner I'm worried the shop might damage the trim parts/break clips etc. Three questions for the experts here:

1- Should I be worried?
2- Do you really need to remove all the A,B,C,D trim pillars before removing the headliner? I mean as per this guide all the panels were removed - but I'm unsure if it was for another purpose or is it a pre-requisite for removing the headliner?
3- Suggestions? Should I work with the upholstery pro to remove the headliner using the instructions in this guide? Or just let him do his job lol...

Thank you so much in advance!
