Last night I was overhauling the parking brake system and I had to deal with 3 sizes of c-clip. Although I got them off somehow, I am looking for a tool that I can use to remove them easily without struggling with each one for 20 minutes.

Either tool or a method is greatly appreciated.

Rami,

I picked up a cheapy Harbor Freight set of snap ring and c-clip pliers that look sort of like this:

What I bought only had 5 or 6 different pliers but came with a set of pliers for snap rings with holes, a set of pliers for snap rings without holes, etc.

Tell me about it!! I just did my bearings and had to deal with those stupid C-clips. Took a good 15 minutes per side and an endless trips to various places across the garage to retrieve them after they flew away in the process. Still waiting for a good method/tool to come up.

Next time I will probably buy a cheap C-clip pliers, cut off the round ends and either flatten or weld a flat tip to them and make my own SST.

Just did a quick search and the Toyota tool to do the job is: 09905-00012:

Lock Ring Pliers

The set I have is made by Lisle tools...These have a "flat" head portion like shown above. I couldn't find a link to the set I bought a few years ago and not sure now if I go them at HF or somewhere else online but these make getting lock rings off easy. I'm not coordinated enough to use two screwdrivers like Ige is :hillbilly:

Please note that I have these pliers for the axle ring.

I was talking about the c-clip on the parking brakes. They look sort like the Greek letter Omega. They are very thin and when closed, you can't get this big pliers in between the ends.

I support the same tool, but a very thin end will do the trick and a screw driver can open it a bit.

They aren't snap rings, they are more of a "squeeze ring". I grab one end with needle-nose pliers and twist it away from part it is securing. They are a one time use item, although I suppose you could reuse them if you were careful.

Those clips are a non-reusable item and are desinged that way.. Use needle nose pliers and a thin flat head scredriver to take 'em off and replace with new.

Yes I know they are non-resuable. Still it took my too long to take them off.
I will try with the needle nose pliers I got (small ones).
