just curious how tall you guys are that have 45. Im 6'1" tall and looking at one. I have sat in one but not for long distance. What are guys bigger than me doing minus extending the cab?

I've had two and I'm 6'4". But they were both 8/80+ models [HJ47's] and they had the tank under the tub, which I believe allows for more leg room.

I plan on adjusting the column length and seat height.. Baby steps. those 2 things are relatively easy depending on what type of steering you have. If you have stock steering then not so much.. if you've cut off the rag joint and have gone to saginaw or FJ60 style and have the bearing pressed into the column then it's much easier. I need to get the seat back in and finalize which steering wheel then adjust accordingly. I did remove the big ol bus steering wheel and am definately going with one that has a smaller diameter. Just not sure if it'll be an FJ60 or FJ80 steering wheel. The seat does seem to go a touch closer to the back with the top off as well. All that said i haven't had much wheel time in the seat so can't really complain yet. I"m using the stock seat as well.. others have gone to newer modern buckets..

My cab is 100% stock. I'm 6' pretty well.

I have done eight hours of highway and 16 hours of trail driving at times. It's not roomy like a caddy but it's not bad.

I recovered my seats and added a layer of 1" thick foam to the driver seat, and I have a butt pad as well. This gets you a bit higher, ergo straightening your legs a bit. If you get too high your legs will hit the wheel. In the future I may add power steering and a smaller mini-truck wheel.

Here's a trick to get the seat back further. Push the seat back as far as it will go with back down. It goes one more click that way.

Everyone... I am 5'10"and I fit in mine ok wouldn't want to drive across country in it however if you are over 6' and long legged it might be a little uncomfortable

Im 5'9... girth matters.... after loosing 45lbs its not as tight a fit :-) I cant imagine driving this 8 hours at 5-9 let along 6+.....

On long trips, I have used the throttle control to maintain speed on a flat road while I move and stretch my legs. It's not as bad as some people say, although if you have leg issues to begin with the 45 cab won't help.

I am 6'3" 205#s I have no problem in my 63 SWB which is 75 MM shorter than my 66 SWB. In the 63 changing the steering column and having a smaller wheel helps a ton. keeping the stock seats helps as well. If you go to an after market seat. These halfbacks work awesome for room savings and comfort.

6'0 and 240. A fixed hard top is really, really tight. I have the stock steering wheel too. It's not horrible for about a half hour or so constant driving or a couple of hours on the trail. My calf hurts from the angle I have to hold my ankle to keep precise pressure on the pedal after a while.

Its worth it though.

I am 6'1" and could only stand to be in there for a short time, I absolutely loved the truck but hated driving it. The more I drove my 45, the more I appreciated my 40. You really need to get in one and drive for a while and see for yourself.

Wearing flip flops or cowboy boots makes a difference too, I'm 5'11". Been driving my truck all over the Bay Area and enjoy it more since I raised the drivers seat 1.5 inches with industrial rubber bushings. Mod allows for subwoofer under seat. 6foot girlfriend like both

Is this true? I know the gas tank moved to under the cab in 79, but did this change the leg room? There was nothing limiting rising the driver's seat on earlier models. The 73 model the steering wheel got a little smaller but I think the steering wheel change with the 81 model was still the same diameter as the 73-80. I already plan on using a 78 cowl on my 65. If I could gain leg I might figure a of using a 82 FJ40 tub back to the B pillar and modify the floor further back to use the larger twenty-two gallon tank.

AFAI can recall. My housemate had a '77 FJ40 and even with the seat all the way back it was tighter than in my HJ47. Maybe someone with new and old tub 45's side by side could chime in and let us know definitively?

67 FJ45 longbed, stock manual steering, 3 on the tree

5'11"....240lbs, wide shoulders. , with the stock seats and battleship size wheel....it can get tight, with top and doors its OK to tool around town. I had to glue some padding on the window crank so my left knee wasnt getting banged up. Recall a 4 hour drive...recall I was in no hurry to do it again

With the top and doors off its much better, more room to crank the wheel and I can put my left foot outside on the door sill or running board.

When I get in my stock 82 FJ40....it feels like a limo, so does the 45 wagon, in the wagon the seat is not even all the way back....only rig I have ever owned the seat didnt have to be all the way back.

My buddy who is 6'3" 280...I had lube him up and pry him out of the longbed...
