How many times can your rebuild a carb?

Fj40jim rebuilt my carb twice since maybe the early 2000s. I struggled to get it tuned recently. Seems like its just worn out? I rebuilt the engine but could never get it to idle. I bought a cheap Chinese one off Amazon and it works better. I’d love to put the stock carb back on. Can you keep rebuilding these, maybe shaft bushing replacement etc, or do they eventually just get worn out?

Pretty much. I hope so at least. Jim C. did mine back in 2004, since then it's just a good cleaning and rebuild kit every now and then. I just ignore the shaft bushings. It's 53 years old, so far so good.

Pighead- I noticed you dont have the heat shield between your manifolds and carburetor. Is that not a problem ?

Pigheads cruiser was birthed prior to the existance of heat shields...

Carb rebuild mostly implies a deep cleaning that gets all the junk gas varnish out of all the tiny passageways that get clogged by junk gas varnish. Barring linkages or shaft bushings , you should be able to do this till the cows come home. JimC still rebuilds. And gas varnish builds up relatively quickly. Yours probably just needs another bath and spa day

Back in the day, back before the thermo-nucular exhaust manifolds, we didn't need no stinkin' heat shields or carb cooling fans. Life was simpler then...
